SEAN TAYLOR ~ ~ ~
20 Questions: NFL Week 17
Playoffs, draft, and predictions.
~ ~ ~ 4. Looking back, who were some of the best picks of last year's draft?
This will go down as a deep draft, with a lot of players making an immediate impact. Two of the best players were picked back-to-back, and I'm not talking one and two, I'm talking 11 and 12. Big Ben was picked 11th by the Steelers and Jonathan Vilma 12th by the Jets. The 13th pick also goes down as a good one as Lee Evans made some big catches for the Bills. There are some other obvious picks that worked out great up top like Roy Williams and Sean Taylor , but if you're looking for steals, look at Julius Jones in round two and Gibril Wilson in round five.

Cooley has got to get stronger and faster this off season. But he was definitely a steal in round 3.
Big ben and Vilma are on Winning teams but Sean Taylor will have as big an impact on the League and both of them in the coming years.
I really Like Vilma though...he seems to be a very complete linebacker.

Perhaps its my hatred for the cowboys, but i'm not impressed by Julius Jones. I'm not exactly sure but I think our defense held him to 60+ yards on 22 carries.
Most of his big games were against poor running defenses.

Mike, while I agree with you that Jones may not be all that, he certainly made a difference for them statistically. He must play on a balanced offence or he will really struggle.

Good point. How many draft picks accounted for six touchdowns? First round? Second round? Any round?

I wonder if Vilma will win the defensive ROY award over Taylor due to being on a winning team.

I watched him some at ND and I never thought he'd be a good NFL back. Although, I've been very impressed with what he has done with dallas after coming off his injury. Barring further injury it appears like he's gonna have a good career

Probably, but it is amazing the presence that Taylor has established across the middle of the field. When a team plays Washington, the receivers know there is a chance of their lights getting knocked out. Just ask Todd Pinkston.
Also, the whole DUI thing will sink his chances as well.

I think Julius Jones is a very, very good player and if he were healthy at the beginning of the Season may have changed the Cowboys fortunes this season.
Dallas still has an undersized front 7 on defense an an offensive line that is huge but bad. I am curious to see if the boys will make a run at Brees.

You can't judge everything by stats, but they can be useful. Consider:
Jonathon Vilma
107 tackles
3 INT
2 sacks
1 TD
1 fumble recovery
Sean Taylor
76 tackles
4 INT
1 sack
Based on the stats alone, Vilma seems to have a pretty good case for DROY.

The fact that Vilma's team is playing next week may give him the nod with the voters. The Taylor off field issues may also play a part in the decision.
