Default Bears Release Terrell

http://www.kffl.com/article.php/24312/115

Quote:
LAKE FOREST, Illinois - Two days after signing two-time Pro Bowl receiver Muhsin Muhammad, the Chicago Bears have released David Terrell.

The move is not surprising since the Bears handed Muhammad a six-year contract worth $30 million with a signing bonus of $10 million Saturday. Muhammad caught 93 passes for 1,405 yards and 16 touchdowns last season for Carolina but was waived due to salary cap purposes.

The Bears pounced on Muhammad and gave up on Terrell, who averaged just 32 catches for 400 yards in his four seasons with Chicago after being selected eighth overall in the 2001 draft.

"It is unfortunate things didn't turn out better for David in Chicago," Bears general manager Jerry Angelo said. "Our decision to release David had nothing to do with his passion for the game or the effort he gave us on Sunday.

"The bottom line is we needed an upgrade at the receiver position. We were able to add a Pro Bowl wideout this past weekend, and those types of moves can affect others on the team. We felt it was in our best interest, and David's, to let him go now. He will have the advantage of the full free agency period to find another team and I know many will be interested."

Last season, Terrell started 15 of 16 games and led the Bears with a career-high 699 receiving yards on 42 receptions. He posted the first two 100-yard receiving games of his career, including a five-catch, 126-yard day in the season opener against Detroit.

Terrell, who turns 26 in March, has 128 receptions for 1,602 yards and nine touchdowns in 53 games, including 30 starts.

This guy was a major bust but he seemed like he was getting a little something going with Rex Grossman early last year, too bad Rex had to blow out his knee. Wonder where Terrell will end up?

hopefully not year, probably in Miami cause they love cast away WR. Terrill is just another major bust that hurts the Franchise, but how much older are the bears getting at WR. Who is there number 2 right now.

The bears are back in the hunt for Mike Williams then.

This is about the time supposedly when a WR comes into his own. If Terrell could be had for a pretty reasonable contract, I'd say why not.

This will be his 5th year in the league.

Yeah Edwards is pretty impressive but you gotta think they hear the whispers about the Michigan Wr's. Actually you are probably right because Muhammad is no speed burner and Williams has a lot of questions about his speed so Edwards might be their guy. No one questions Edwards in the speed department.

I think 1 of 2 things will happen with the Bears at the #4 spot.

1. They will draft whomever they perceive to the better of the two WR's, Edwards or Williams, or

2. They will trade down to a team looking to draft one of those two players themselves.

Interesting option for depth IMO, maybe #3 under Jacobs and somebody else (Coles, Moss, Burress... I dont know). Make him compete with James Thrash.

I'd definitely take a look at Terrell for the league minimum.
