Madden 2005 Question
Is there any info on when the next roster update for the PS2 version will be available with players like moss and patten on the skins?

I doubt there will be another. I remember when we traded for Portis, and I was waiting for the new roster update to come out...it never did.
I think they stop updating once the season ends. One of their ploys to make you buy 2006 in August.

Exactly! (Not that I blame them)
Do the rosters yourself in the main screen. It is easy enough to keep up with the big comings and goings.

Im hooked. Im sure there will be just enough enhanced that makes buying 2006 worth it. I've been buying every Madden Franchise since 92, with the exception of 97 & 98.
2005 is MUCH better than 2004. With Madden being the only football game out, I think they will take it to a whole new level....

I play Madden on PC and do a franchise. Usually I play about 6 or 7 seasons in between updates and then start over right when I am about to enter Cap hell. It is great. I love the franchise mode it is one of the best I have ever seen.

little help for you for "cap hell," there are several tricks. it all though depends on how hard core you are to reality. you can switch someones position under roster, choose player, edit. however you can only do this if you have more than the required # of players at that position. so if you make ramsey to be a 99, switch to a te, resign as a te, its extremely cheap because hed be like a 14 te. another thing you can do is simply resign players at the end of the year to one yr deals. you have to have the required space in the cap to do this, but its useful when you have a new player you got in the 1st rnd that replaces someone else, who you signed to a 6 yr deal the yr before. i have a few "core" skins, but even for them, once they get to about 33, ill keep them around, but adios. sadly lavar is about to leave me in a yr or so, then again it is 2011.

no, the game is set up so that the base salary is backloaded, while the important aspect (signing bonus) is even across the length of the deal. it could be up in one yr vs another, its just the program trying to balance out the $ and the yr of the deals. you dont get to choose how the signing bonus and the base salary is spaced out, you only get to decide the amount and the yrs of the deal.

theres actually a couple fot things that ticked me off about madden, that they needed to fix. the main thing is that i feel like the computer is better than the human players. i mean an 85 cb for the computer plays much better than a 85 cb for my team. i get so ticked off when a cb like 89 covers a guy like coles at a 98, with serious speed, meanwhile the 89 cb has 85 speed, yet stays w/ him. thats a joke. i know all madden should be hard, but it should be realistic. i still dont lose most of the time, but still. also, theyve completely taken out the jump by wr. it doesnt exist. they have it for cb somewhat, but the best example is the jumping ability of the fs. i also think it would be cool if they incorporated what they did in ncaa 2005, where the players get better / worse during the game. so if a player starts at 88 at the begining, can become a 98 if he plays well in the game. (similarly a 90 qb can go down to 80 if hes picked off.) i think thats pretty realistic.

After playing a Skins franchise for about 6 seasons, I created 4 teams and then did the Fantasy draft feature. I put all 4 created teams in the same division, replacing the AFC South with my 4 custom teams, with me controlling one of the created teams.
I then drafted my entire team, loading up on younger players who were not valued as high as they should be. My defense is absolutely sick, as is my O line and I took basically rook WR's. This has been a great source of fun for me running this franchise, but Im now going into the 4th season and will be having some tough decisions to make. Ramsey is my QB. Oddly enough, he was beat out by Rohan Davey in my first season, so I turned Davey into a stud and then traded him for draft picks.
As for the backloading of contracts, true you don't have control over how the $$ s spread, but the signing bonus like in real life is pro-rated over the life of the contract for cap purposes. Restructuring contracts, just like in real life can ease cap situations.
