Default You've Got Mel...

Posting this now without a link as it will become "insider" material. From ESPN.com:

Frost, Va: with the 9th overall pick will Joe Gibbs and the redskins take a cornerback to fill the void left by Fred Smoot or will they get a big play reciver they so deperatly need

Mel Kiper: (2:27 PM ET ) They need both, Carlos Rogers from Auburn would make a lot of sense for them or Antrelle Rolle from Miami. ... Pac-Man's situation, we have to see what transpires there, but he is the best corner based ONLY on ability.

something about a urine test...no one knows for sure what's up besides those closely involved, but word has it that PacMan's stock is dropping big time.

Per PFT and other sources:

PAC-MAN RUMORS ARE BOGUS

Based on further information we've received regarding rumors that defensive back Adam "Pac-Man" Jones tested positive for a banned substance at the Scouting Combine last month, we now believe firmly that the rumors are bogus and unsubstantiated.

This doesn't change the fact that the rumors are out there, but no one should believe them, in our opinion.

In the end, the rumors shouldn't affect Jones, since all teams will know prior to the draft whether or not the urine sample given by him at the Combine was clean. Still, it's unfortunate that these things get started, apparently by agents who should focus more on getting their own guys ready than on knocking down other players.

I doubt it, the rumors sound like a smear campaign to get him to drop to a lower first round team. Smoot dropped because of weed earlier in college, if Pac Man is failing drug tests at the combine then we should be very careful, but the rumors sound sketchy at best.

I agree...if PacMan really did test positive then I don't think anything would hold back the media from releasing the story. It would be covered in more mainstream publications.

Yeah, PFT will just print anything and then if it's wrong the next day they'll just say, "well looks like that story was wrong, but it wasn't our fault cause that's what we heard". This site is actually pretty hilarious, they're using their lack of journalistic integrity as a selling point, like saying people should read them because they're willing to print all the rumors that no one else will touch... They don't realize they're being used as a pawn half the time.

I'd be more inclined to believe Mel Kiper than the PFT site. No matter if you agree with Kiper or not, he's the main draft insider for the NFL. So I would trust him before trusting anyone else with this kind of stuff.

This dirty urine report is BS. PacMan has been the victim of a smear campain from another agent trying to get his client drafted higher.

they actually did a good job(IMO) of being cautious with the story and printing a good retraction---this time.

Yes they did show more caution than is their norm. Probably after getting that harsh reply from the scout over their Pollack story.

I do think that half their stories are just a result of football people trying to exploit them to get information out that may not be genuine. I could definitely see a team around #15 dropping this piss test rumor to try and get Pac Man to fall to them.

Carlos Rogers will be better than Pac-Man. And we can still get him after trading down.
