AP Basketball Writer
ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Utah sophomore Andrew Bogut, who emerged from obscurity to national dominance in a single season, capped his college basketball career with The Associated Press national player of the year award Friday.
The 7-foot Australian led the Utes to the Mountain West Conference regular-season title and the third round of the NCAA tournament. He announced Monday that he would forgo his last two years of school and enter the NBA draft this summer, when he is projected as a lottery pick and possibly the first player chosen overall.
Bogut didn't even get honorable mention in preseason All-America balloting but went on to lead NCAA Division I with 26 double-doubles. He missed a double-double in only nine games this season and accomplished it 40 times in his Utah career.

Good, he;s very deserving. I think he is my favorite player in the country that doesn't play for a local team. Ike Diogu should have gotten more attention.

I never much of his games, so all I can say about him I say in the tourney, in which he was superb. Best passing big man I have seen since that guy from Portland, Sabonis.

I had never heard of this guy until the NCAAs. But I agree. He deserved it.
Congrats.

I watched a lot of him last year and part of this year. He's very good and deserves the award. BUT I'm not sure how he'll adapt to the pro game, I see him as a better version then Chris Kamen but I'm not sure how great that makes him.

We held him to one of his worst games of the year and he still dumped in 20 and 12 on us in the Sweet 16. He'll be a heck of a player.

He deserves it. He's a monster, and he might go #1 overall in the NBA draft to someone like the Lakers. God knows they could use a big man.

I don't think that he will amount to much in the NBA.
