Seeing that i'm computer illiterate besides adding images and such, can someone please relay this news to me in a way I may understand?

Thanks.

It sounds like they knew about some potential openings for hackers, patched those openings up, and now have removed those patches and making the openings available again.

It is an issue, but it's the first to come up for Firefox. IE still has tons more and haven't moved an inch to fix them or develop a new browser. The patches are being worked on, but in the meantime there are still things you can do to to avoid it, but it limits some functionality. Again, it's not nearly as big of a deal as Microsoft's blatant disregard for IEs rampant problems.

Uncheck a box, you're all set.

I don't see the problem.

Good point. I read an article recently about the lack of attacks on such programs as Firefox and they basically said it was the lack of number of users as compared to IE. They feel that if/when it overtakes IE, it'll have the same problems. I actually agree with that.

Yeah, it'd be the same thing with everything. Like Linux, for example. Or Apple. If everybody switched to this stuff, the Malware writers would start attacking every little hole in these platforms, and they'd have all the problems Microsoft currently enjoys. Firefox, Opera, whatever. Nothing is totally secure, even if it's off, unplugged, and in Fort Knox.

It very well might. I don't think anyone can say for sure that it will until the time comes. If it does happen, I'm fairly confident Mozilla will fix it. The same cannot be said for its juggernaut competitor. Really, when it comes down to it, it's going to be next to impossible to design a browser, let alone a system, that hackers can't and won't hack. It's just one of the downsides of the internet.

Precisely, when you have millions and millions of lines of code it is nearly impossible to make it hacker-proof and honestly, its better not to claim that because it only makes the hackers more determined.
