Default Some info on Dockery...

http://www.timesdispatch.com/sports/...BYDSXHVGD.html

Quote:
ON GUARD: The Washington Redskins spent millions of dollars in the offseason to upgrade their offensive guard positions. But before this season is over, one of the best guards on the squad might be third-round draft choice Derrick Dockery. Dockery has impressed the coaching staff enough that he was inserted into the starting unit at times in the recent minicamp.
I looked back to see if this had been posted. I don't believe it has. If so, I apologize.

This is a couple of weeks old. But, A very good read about Dockery and a little about Smoot and his relationship with M. Lewis.

I haven't read this carmike but it's a very good read. I really hope Dockery can play immediately. And we would have a massive o-line too! Goodbye Dallas' small d-line.

Yeah would not be bad to see what we have all been discussing come true, that is Dockery inserted at OG and Fiore moved to C. Larry Moore would make outstanding depth at C and G. Moore would actually be superb depth that could step in easily. That sets up a great situation for our OLine when you have depth like Moore, Tre, and Friedman.

He could probably take on Dallas's D-line by himself. If he makes it to the starting unit and Fiore's shifted to center, some very good things are gonna happen with that line.

very good read. It's good to hear that we have problems with our O-line, but this time it's a problem of too much depth. You can never have enough there and I'm glad that we are in this position. If Dockery turns into the Beast he looks like, It will awesome having three young stud lineman to anchor this offense. Add a cannon in the backfield and speed on the wings and we're looking pretty good.

Right you are. How quickly things change! Just last season we were all crying abotu the porr interior of the Line, now, well, were simply wandering which stud will get the nod.

Yeah, that guy is huge. I thought Tre was big but wow. If he starts, I'd be very happy.

can't do anything small when you're talking about Dockery.

Williams, Manning among top prospects for 2004 draft
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Len Pasquarelli
ESPN.com

~ ~ ~ Around the league

Dockery taking advantage of second chance: Funny sometimes how quickly things change in the league. At the predraft combine workouts in Indianapolis, no team was more turned off by the performance of University of Texas offensive lineman Derrick Dockery than the Washington Redskins, who felt he lacked definition and simply hadn't prepared very well for his audition. But credit the Redskins for continuing to monitor Dockery, despite their initial disgust, in the weeks preceding the draft. Washington scouts and personnel officials eventually did an about-face on Dockery and chose him in the third round. Heading into training camp, coming off solid performances in offseason sessions, he already has emerged as a key figure for line coach Kim Helton. There is a chance that the versatile Dockery could, with a very good camp, bump Larry Moore from the starting center spot. Or he could beat out Dave Fiore at right guard and force the veteran to move to center. At worst, Redskins coaches figure Dockery will be the No. 3 tackle, behind starters Jon Jansen and Chris Samuels. Good thing for Washington, it seems, that its personnel staff afford Dockery a second chance to make a good impression.

kelly, thanks for posting that. Very good read. Its the first time that I've heard the Redskins were turned off by him at the combine. I knew he didn't look interested in Indi but I had no idea we were looking at him there.

I was one of the "why in the hell are taking a OL in the draft after we just added Thomas and Fiore". We had also signed Tre'. I'll be the first to admit though. It's looking like we made a good decision.

Yeah there is no doubt that Spurrier learned a valuable lesson last season. You can run the fun n gun all you want, but if your QB, any QB, does not have the tiem to throw, the time to read, then the system will fail. Our Line literally went from awful, to probbaly the jumping into the top five offensive lines in the NFL.

But, I think to accurately look at what was added, it goes beyong addign Fiore and Thomas, it goes to DEPTH. Dockery, Tre, and Friedman, porvide not just high quality, but versitile depth. Larry Moor can play both OG and C. Friedman has played every OLIne position, G, T, and C. Dockery can play OT and OG. The versitility of the depth is outstanding. Thomas and Fiore have propelled this lien to one of the better, but the depth makes it one of the best.
