Robinson and Scioscia battle words on the field
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250614103
anyone see this? i haven't watched any news yet but it's interesting.. the Angels pitcher got caught with pine tar and their manager's trying to cover for him by telling Robinson he was going to "undress" his pitchers. lol.. you got caught.. deal with it. and a fired up J. Guillen with a game tying home run in the 8th that sparked the victory after the incident.. how sweet the game must've been!

Donnelly was ejected after Nationals manager Frank Robinson asked umpires to inspect his glove and found a foreign substance. Then a fired-up Jose Guillen hit a tying two-run homer and the Nationals scored four eighth-inning runs Tuesday night to rally for a 6-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia then began jawing at Robinson, and both benches emptied, although there apparently were no punches thrown.
Guillen, suspended late last season by the Angels for throwing a temper tantrum and traded last November, was particularly angered during the incident and had to be restrained by his Washington teammates.

"I lost a lot of respect for Mike tonight -- as a person and as a manager. And there's nothing he can say to me now, nothing," Robinson said. "I don't even want him to approach me, I don't even want him to apologize to me. I would not accept it or have anything to do with it."
|
Quote:
"He took me by surprise when he came over to me and I took it as a threat," Robinson said. "He told me that he was going to have every one of my pitchers undressed when they came out there to the mound -- no matter who it was."
Said Scioscia: "I told Frank we were going to undress his pitchers when they were on the mound to see if they had any pine tar in their glove. He obviously wasn't happy. He was screaming. We weren't making a lunch date."
When the Nationals took the field for the bottom of the seventh, Scioscia asked the umpires to check pitcher Gary Majewski's glove, which they did -- and made him fix the loose laces on it.

It was intense. Robinson knew something and had the umps check Donnelly before he even threw a pitch. Claims that it wasnt Guillen tipping him off. Sciosca said some stupid crap and Robinson wasnt taking it so he said something back. And both teams defended their managers. Great to see the Nats stick up for Frank. Guillen especially. He had to be restrained he was so mad. Then Guillen hit a two run homer. He got booed all nite, especially after the home run.

Interesting to note such a pillar in baseball history, like Farnk Robinson, and for Robinson to say he has lost respect for you, whoa, I would be feeling pretty damn bad today if I were Mike Scioscia

From everything I've read though, pine tar doesn't really do much for the flight of the ball. Now, there was rumored to be sand paper, but it was never found that I'm aware of. This is good for team unity regardless.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - The pine tar feud was still simmering Wednesday.
Quote:
A day after Washington Nationals manager Frank Robinson asked the umpires to check Brendan Donnelly's glove and the Los Angeles Angels' reliever was ejected for having pine tar on it, Robinson leveled some fresh accusations.
He claimed Angels pitching coach Bud Black and manager Mike Scioscia were aware that Donnelly was using pine tar.
"Donnelly knows he's breaking the rules, believe me," Robinson said Wednesday before the final game of the three-game series. "Bud Black knows he's breaking the rules, believe me. Scioscia knows he's breaking the rules, believe me.
After Washington's 1-0 victory, Jose Guillen blasted Scioscia, his manager with the Angels last season."He was talking to me last year about respect and class and how we have to move on," Guillen said. "I don't care really much about Mike Scioscia.
"I have no respect for him any more, because I'm still hurt from what happened last year. Mike Scioscia to me is like a piece of garbage. I don't care if I get in trouble. He can go to hell."
"To me, Scioscia overreacted," Robinson said. "He stepped over the line, and that's what fueled the whole thing."
He said the incident wasn't worth any players throwing punches, adding, "If there were any punches that were going to be thrown, it was going to be between the two managers - because that's where the problem was."
Robinson, 69, said that was the angriest he's been at someone in uniform since his playing days.

At this point I think the new management needs to ask Frank Robinson how long he wants to manage, and give the man a new contract. In a poll of MLB analysts before the 2005 baseball season, Frank Robinson tied Buck Schowalter for worst manager with 12% of the vote. Nice call you bunch of 'Tards!
Robinson still has a few tricks up his sleave.

Robinson is the man. Anyone that messes with him messes with our whole roster and fanbase.
Guillen said after that he was completely changed and got fired up, then blasted that homer. Guillen is sick.

The real question is who would win if it came down to Robinson vs. Scioscia? He's undermatched in terms of weight and age, but he's got so much FIRE! Let's get 'em in the ring!
