Default Q & A with Marcus Washington

Quote:
Q: How tough will Antonio Pierce be to replace?
A: It'll definitely be tough. He's a heck of a leader. Everyone feels like I feel -- it's a loss having him get out of here. I wish we could have kept him. He meant a lot to us and was a big part of our defense. But we're the Redskins' defense. Someone else always finds a way to get the job done. Sometimes things don't go the way you want them to go. I know someone will step up and do well this year. Once we get into the preseason someone will solidify the position.
Quote:
Q: I know you're on the outside, but how tough is it to learn to play in the middle?
A: I'm lucky because I'm a Sam. Once I get the call I'm like, 'OK guys don't bother me.' In the middle, you're the quarterback of the defense. Everyone knows Coach Williams' defense is not the easiest one in the NFL. Not only do you have to get yourself lined up but you also have to line the defensive line up. Sometimes they don't want to cooperate so you have to slap them on the butt and get them going. It's tough doing it in a game when everything is going so fast and you're a little out of breath and you've got Sean Taylor out there not getting in the huddle and AP would have to yell at him. I take my hat off to someone who performs that job.
My Emphasis

It has some interesting things in there, but it's a good read. It's certainly not the standard answers I would expect in all cases.

I noticed Sean Taylor's lack of enthusiasm for a huddle when I was at the Bears game last season. I thought that was odd.

He is a strange cat, for sure. He doesn't seem to be a great teammate or person, notwithstanding what the Skins say publicly. But he hit, cover and run, and as long as he can do that, the team will put up with him.

I think he was always like that even in his days at the U.

I especially liked this comment:

Q: How can you improve the defense?
A: A large percentage of guys felt like they needed to come in and improve on the little things. We hope to disguise things more so they don't know what we're in.

It sure sounds like Marcus wants nothing to do with playing MLB, as some media types and at least one board member have suggested. He is among the very best at SAM. One of the Skins best free agency pickup ever. I hope the coaches are not thinking, not even a little bit, about switching him over to the middle.

There is no way Marcus gets moved to Mike.

I can't find the words to express how much I love having Washington on our team. He is so smart and such a team player but most of all he genuinely loves playing the game. I was at the Dallas MNF game last year and I was sitting at the perfect angle to see down into part of the blowup thing that the players come out of. Washington was jumping up and down in there getting all the guys fired up. Alot of players say they love the game but he seems genuine.

I was really impressed with his answers. Like some of you have said, not the standard answers, yet very smart. I really like the subtle yet effective remark about Taylor.

Default More Perspective on Taylor

I know a lot of people be hatin' on ST. But for a little perspective, take a gander at this article. I know a lot of it suprised me.

It's really sad, what's happening. I hope the better side of him wins and he gets his act together.

Marcus is a fabulos player IMO... he is world class it would seem. I am really gonna cheer extra hard for this guy. I hope more fans take notice of talented players like Washington. there are becoming less and less players that play and talk the way he does. Heck I hope they keep him around his whole career and his jersey would be a smart buy. even if he leaves you still got a jersey that says WASHINGTON.
