Default Pataki bails on 4th term

Quote:
New York Gov. George Pataki (R) tried to throw reporters off the story yesterday, but last night "summoned aides and associates to the governor's mansion to tell them that he had decided not to seek a fourth term as governor of New York," the New York Times reports. "His announcement ends months of speculation about his political future in New York, but leaves the state's Republican Party pressed to find a candidate to replace him."

I am going to a fundraiser tonight with the honored guest being Elliot Spitzer. I have met him a couple of times before as well. He is assured the Dem nomination and with Pataki pulling out the GOP will be hard pressed to replace him. There is a DA in one of the NY suburbs looking at Hillary's race who may jump ship to this one. But thenthey really have no one to run against Hillary.

The NY GOP is in serious trouble and if the Dems weren't so stupid in NYC they would be organizing to get bloomberg out as well.

Spitzer's wife should go over to the governor's mansion and start measuring the place for new carpets and curtains.

If Bill Clinton ran for President again he would win. Damn constitution.

Never underestimate George Pataki
Pundits have been putting him down since he ran for mayor of Peekskill, as they will if he runs for president
BY ALFONSE M. D'AMATO
Alfonse M. D'Amato, former Republican senator of New York, is a founder of Park Strategies, a New York City consulting firm.

July 29, 2005

Note to Republican presidential primary candidates: Don't underestimate George Pataki.

There was a time when the pundits said he couldn't win a freshman's run for mayor of Peekskill. They also said that about him when he ran for the Assembly and then the State Senate. In each instance this quiet, thoughtful man proved himself an astute politician who could read his constituents far better than the pollsters and the political analysts.

Maybe the Dems and the GOP could make a deal to amend the Constitution twice; once to allow Bill to run again, the second time to allow Schwarzennager (or however the hell you spell his name) to run. Not that Arnold's a particularly great politician, but you know he'd get plenty of attention.
