Nice article as usual Joe.
Although, you neglected to mention the biggest positive from the practice game. Unlike last year, no one got hurt. Too me this is far and away the most important thing for this team during the pre-season.

Sorry. Not convinced by Ramsey at all. He has been starter since Week 10 last year I believe and all I am clinging too is that he is improving in fractions. He can have a high completion percentage but he must move the chains. Despite getting plenty of time in the pocket, and improving in creating more time for his self. He still could not engineer the chains to keep on moving.
This is not a quarter in isolation Joe. He is entering his fourth year and he still makes those bad throws that cause turnovers and misses open receivers on passes he should make.
I am worried because it raises the spector of Brunell at the helm and he causes me more fear.
Joe Gibbs is giving Patrick all the tools to succeed but he is not playing with the confidence he should.

Great Post. Again I look at how many opportunities has the QB lead us into scoring position. That's one way I evaluate the QB position. Not neccessarily the final score. Remember, many of you all said this would be different cause Ramsey has finally been given his shot. Well it's not ok to underthrow a ball only to be intercepted with no pressure. I would rather him overthrow it..those things normally happen.

Very well put Joe. Poor Jimoh. He's the perennial HR punching bag.

exactly. not to dis the article, but it made no sense. It actually suggested that GIBBS TOLD RAMSEY to throw an interception. Gibbs told ramsey to throw deep. Moss got WIDE OPEN. Ramsey threw short directly to gamble. It wasnt even close.
Its not that we dont have faith in this team, or this offense. It's just we dont have faith in Ramsey, and Brunell looked sexy as hell. I havent read a single post where someone said Brunell should be the starter now. What I have seen are alot of posts saying things along the lines of, "If Brunell continues to look good, and Ramsey continues to look bad, we need to start Brunell."
(On a side note, people say Brunell was good b/c he was playing against backup defenders, but they forget Brunell was also playing WITH receivers who don't have a chance in hell of even making the practice squad. Yet he still got it done.)
How can any of this be described as hitting the panic button?
Our offense as a whole looked sexy as heck. If not for those turnovers at the WORST possible times and a missed field goal, we would have had ATLEAST 20 points instead of 10. The turnover that should have been a TD was caused by a rookie who probably wont make the roster. The missed field goal was by a guy who probably wont be kicking for us this year. THOSE ARE THE REASONS we shouldnt be worried about our offense as a whole, in addition to great play from the O-line.
I generally like the Cup of Schmoe articles, and I applaud the spirit of the article, but come on already! :-)

"And remember Ramsey could not move the ball against the Panther's second team Defense." (Mentioned by Doc Walker on Sportstalk 980 3:15PM)..

Well, no, I suggested that Gibbs told Ramsey to go deep the first chance he got, even if there was double coverage (as there was on that play).

You haven't? You need to look harder, there are plenty of people ready to forget an entire regular season because of a quarter of preseason.

They don't? DMC and Antonio Brown both have very good chances of being on the team. Antonio Brown, while not yet an established receiver, has been the best WR in camp. Not saying that either are going to bust out with Pro Bowl seasons, but they're not as bad as you say, either.

Well, when you see "BRING BACK BRUNELL!" written, in all caps, several timesi n the forum, I'd call that hitting the panic button.

Hey, I'm glad I found someone who agrees with that. Most people think it was horrible, but I thought it actually looked damn good.

Heh, you might very well be right. These next few weeks will be telling.

Joe, I didn't mean to be overly critical. Maybe i'm just too naive, but I looked at your article as being overly justifiable of something that didnt need justifying!
You have probably been online more than me, but most of what I have read has been dissapointed, yes, but still optomistic. When was the last time we went through an entire game w/o a sack? Heck, how many times were our QBs sacked during scrimage just one week ago? 4?!?! yet last night, against the best blitzing defense in the NFL, we had ZERO. and patrick ramsey is a guy that is known for just sitting and waiting to get hit! yet he was untouched for a whole half!!!
i honestly look at the game as being 20-28, and thats not bad considering its the 1st pre-season game against a team with next to zero turnover that was in the SUPERBOWL two years ago!!!!
I am on my last thread with Ramsey, and you could argue with me all day about it, and I wouldnt budge. (If you were so inclined. I have a feeling you arent quite an ardent supporter, either :-) ) What makes it worse about Ramsey, is he had the STARTING RECEIVERS and did nothing with them. Brunell did have brown and mccants, but those are two guys who will likely be competing for the #5 spot, if we dont end up with 6 on the roster.....
but anyway, i, like you, am excited as hell about our offense as a whole. I expect to see DRAMATIC improvements in the weeks to come!

Joe, excellent article.
But how long are we to wait on Ramsey to show that he's made improvments? A year and a half in Coach Gibbs offense you'd think he's getting better. Not regressing...
