Damn. What a story. I feel badly for the kid. Can you imagine living with this for the rest of his life?

My wife and her college friend hit a guy in Charlotte that was trying to cross the street. They hit the guy on the passenger side of the car, right where my wife was sitting. The guy was carrying a 12 pack of beer. There were only 3 left when officers arrived. The guy wasted and had wondered out in front of them. 4 years later, my wife received a subpeona (?) The guy was trying to sue the driver and my wife was a witness.

The case never went to trial. Never know what happened....

This case is a little difeerent than the one in Texas as the kid called 911 when he got, not much chance the guy was alive. Man that would freak you out

IMO its still a hit and run to be honest....by the law it is. I think the Kid did not mean that though he just wanted to get to a phone. He should still be cited just not thrown in jail. This could turn into a real ugly race thing if the boy is white and he gets off scott free. By the letter of the law you must stop and render aide. I dont care if your house is a block away let alone a mile. I know he panicked and that the man was probably dead..those are called mitigating circumstances to be used when sentencing him for hit and run. Not to dismiss the charge altogether.

I'm not sure how race plays a part in this. Can you explain?

The woman involved in the hit and run was African American....some might see it as a double standard. Do not get me wrong, I dont think they are exact same type cases but the fact of the matter is this guy did commit a hit and run. He should not get the sentence that the woman here (Texas) got but he should aslo not have anything happen to him. He needs to be charged with hit and run..plain and simple.

Tex, those are two very different cases. I believe the guy was still alive when the black woman hit him. He died at her house. And she waited a long time to report it.

This kid panicked. He's 19 years old. At 19, I would have probably done the same thing. Plus, he reported it right away. He didn't wait a couple of days.

I'll try to find the other article and compare the two.

Alos, not trying to make lite of the case, but did he really hit and run? The body was inside the car. He didn't damage the crime scene in any possible way.

Just a thought.

You might be right on them being very different. I wont take the excuse that 19 is too young to know what to do though. At 19 I was fighting for my country and was already promoted to the rank of E-4. I knew what I was doing when I joined the military and knew what I was doing when I went to War. People (not saying you Carmike) tend to give young people too much leeway when it comes to doing stupid stuff. Just a century ago 19 was already a man. Now we baby our youth and tell them everything is not their fault. I am getting waay off suject here. hehe.
Carmike I think your right...these are 2 different cases. He still committed a hit and run because you have to stop where the accident happen. That way the Police can determine what happened by the evidence at the scene of the crime/accident. Not a mile away. Just my opninion hehe
