I thought it was great and hope to see it continue! They both ran well today, we don't have a big drop off when Betts come in ... I love it!

Fresh legs will help our running in the 3rd and 4th quarters against other defeneses. It was interesting to watch the contrast of our run game between 1st and 2nd half, our running game took off in the 2nd half on the strengths of each runner. This kind of running is the type we need, bruising run style wearing down the opponent and running the clock down. I really thought the game was over when we got the ball today with 5 minutes left, too bad we couldn't convert and run the ball and the clock down to 0.
We are set at RB, but as always we need the offense to begin to click. I was happy to see us THROWING the ball with PR with success, and I look forward to more of the same. We need to convince other teams that we can and will throw and we can win by throwing, only then will our running game get fewer people in the box.

I like the way they both ran, I would have liked to see more run plays called when Ramsey was in there but thats a different subject.

CP and LB provide a wonderful 1 2 punch.
i would have liked to see Nemo punch it in from the 1 yd line on 4th down however i understand JG's call against a weak offense like the Bears.
since we don't play another team as weak as this i would hope we have some confidence in trying to punch it in w/ Nemo the Train (choo choo baby)

Nemo was inactive today, which might explain why we didn't go for it. No need taking a risk when we were behind.
As for the combo, I loved it. Ball control football at it's best, although I'd like to see Portis bounce it out more. I feel like we're still trying to pound it with him too much, and while he can get 7-8 yards easily, he can also get stopped for losses just as easily. Betts is great between the tackles, and I think he should be the one doing all the pounding while letting Portis save his breath for those 20-yard runs under tackle.
Also, for the passing game, Patrick actually had pretty good number. 120 passing yards in a little over one quarter, although we need to use our running weapons with him more effectively. At this rate, we'll soon have a play-action threat comparable to Edge in Indy, in that the recievers will have much better seperation when we do it.

According to Portis and Gibbs, the RB balance is up to Clinton. Gibbs said that if hes is not 100%, to just take himself out and run Ladell in his spot. Portis said in the post-game thats what they were doing, the rational was that Portis knows when he is tired, and Gibbs dosen't. Portis said he had no problem pulling himself from the game for a breather because he is confident in Ladell's abilities, and he just wants to do whatever it takes to win games.

This combo wears the defense down. My only problem is when we keep running 3 plays in a row. Mixing the play calling will make the run game even better.

i voted yes. i love the mix. they both had fresh legs and according to portis gibbs gave him the responsiblility to call in betts to get a rest. it worked well. i also like the fact that the opposing defense won't know when we are running or passing with both of them running and catching. also they both can go up the middle or outside so there is no "tell" what we are doing when one or the other is in.

I was happy with the running game and the way they both were used. Although both RB's have their strengths, they still have to run plays that are not to their strengths so that defense won't play the edges when Portis is in and clog the middle when Betts is in. I think that is what allowed Portis to break the long one up the middle in the 3rd quarter.
The running game will be ok. We need to develope the passing game so that the run will be even more dangerous.

I think it works great. I also like Gibbs putting the choice in Clinton's hands.
This is the type of fetup that could make our offense very potent as the year goes on. I can see teams so consumed with stopping our run that they oull everyone up and then we throw it over them. Sounds like a familiar formula.

Do you feel that Coach Gibbs used the right combination in the running game? Is this a tandem that can be effective? Will it give opposing D coordinators concern? Was this a "one time wonder" or should this continue?
Your thoughts!?!?!

Joe said he told Portis to go 100% until he needed a breather and Betts would go in. He is letting Portis decide when he needs a breather and that is good.

I've been a Betts' follower since his debut (I still remember his spirited rookie diary on redskins.com), so I'm very pleased with the way Gibbs uses him in that combo with Portis. He's a very reliable backup and could turn into a very good starter if ever there's a need, although I don't wish it.

A fresh Ladell Betts coming behind an explosive Portis is an excellent 1-2 duo. What I want to see game is Portis have 20 carries and Ladell around 10. I want to see Portis get more reception opportunities. He is money there also.
