we need a name from this duo. i think it worked great. i noticed that portis came out of the huddle with a slight limp occasionally, so its good to know we have a guy like betts that can come in and get us some yards while CP is out. i do, however, hope that CP gets at least 12-15 TDs.....

It worked well and the good guys won, so I approve (not that anyone listens to me, of course).

What I wonder is if Portis will be happy with an arrangement that doesn't give him 25+ carries per game as a feature back.

If he is averaging 5.5 YPC, he won't need as many carries. Besides, Joe is leaving it up to him when to come out, situational substitution not withstanding.

Well he got 120 yards....that is almost 2k for a season. He will be happy as long as we win. I think CP will chare the load with Betts and keep both healthy and ready for the playoffs and the 4th quarter of games.

Oh, he's happy. Basically, his head coach has told him he can stay in for as long as he wants, and whenever he wants to come out, he has a capable backup that will keep the defense off-balance and keep the offense confident while he catches his breath and comes back in on the next drive. As long as he gets his yards per carry and his 1500 yards, Portis is a happy camper.

Not to mention the fact he actually cares about the team. *cough* Gardner *cough*

Oh yeah, could be absolutely deadly with a passing game.

With our OL winning the battle in the trenches our running game is going to be tremendous IF we have and adequate passing game that will keep defenses from putting 8 in the box.

What makes our running game great is that with a duo like we have we are running with full speed for the entire game. In the 4th quarter when the defense is exhausted, I love it when we can run 3 or 4 times in a row and pick up good yards each time and the clock keeps rolling and there is nothing the defense can do to slow it down.

Keep them fresh. That's the way they should keep it, let's move the sticks.

Portis avg isnt a fluke, Betts is rejuvinated and used more we used to use Earnest Byner. Add BOTH's pass catching abilities and I smell some serious stuff going down with a QB with so much experience to match Bledsoes'.
Its a battle of the has beens in this one, but its the running game/OL that determines the mileage.

I definitely believe that giving Portis a mid game rest is the way to go. It gives the line time to beat down the opposing d-line then... WHAM a fresh Portis rips off a chunk of yards.

I want to see more cases of ladell and portis in at the same time for a couple plays. Maybe one out wide, or both in the I. With their pass-catching abilities and speed it could create some distraction with the opposing D.

If you saw moss and betts on one side, portis as the single back, cooley moving in motion wide, and patten on the other side, what would you think? are they going to run a sweep, throw a screen, run a reverse, or what?

I like the combination. Betts is better than i thought he was. I thing Gibbs has more confidence in him now. He is reliable and it keeps Portis fresh for the long haul.
