Hidden Gems 2003

Year after year, NFL scouting departments search the country looking at hundreds of college prospects in preparation for the NFL Draft. The teams with the best scouts usually are the ones who can find the "hidden gems." Here at All-Pro Scouting Services, we have had an amazing percentage of our "hidden gems" not only get NFL contracts, but we have a great number of the players DRAFTED. Dante Wesley, Joseph Jefferson, Josh McCown, Melvin Mitchell, Keon Nash, and many others were first seen here on our Hidden Gems page before anyone knew of them. Expect the same results from our pre-season crop of Hidden Gems below. Remember their names because in a few months, they will be making some noise around NFL circles.
FINAL UPDATE updated 4-6-03

Quarterbacks:

Weird how they don't think much a Banks as well..hmm maybe all these people know something we don't? How do you go from runner up for the Hiesman to not even on anyone's radar is beyond me.

Ya know, Tex...This also baffles me.

It happens every year. Great College QBs who are in the heisman race, that never even get drafted. I know Eric Crouch comes to mind...although he was drafted late by St. Louis as a WR.

I saw one Iowa game last year and was VERY impressed with Banks. I thought for sure that he would be grouped in with the Boller/Simms class of college QBs that were drafted.

It is different competing in college against college teams and havign the tools, mechanics, and smarts to be an NFL QB. There is a distinction in the types of QB that scouts believe have the tools to succeed and make it in the NFL.

The college game is a lot different than the NFL game. College QBs are just better athletes than the defensive guys they are playing against. Not all, but most. College QBs don't need to have the strongest arms. But, they can still get the ball to the WR. The perfect example to that is Wuerffel. He was one of the greatest college QBs to play. But his arm isn't strong enough to play effectively in the NFL. He may have a good game here and there. But thats it.

There has been a lot of either Heisman winners or runners up that just don't make it in the NFL....

That is why I never personally take much stride with the Heisman. It seems most of it is simple politics now....
