Spurrier to stay low key...

But the man who was one of the nation's most blunt and outspoken college coaches while at the University of Florida said he will take a low-key approach regarding his expectations for the Redskins this season, and he wants his players to do the same.
|
Wonder how long this will last? The mans to competitive to keep his mouth shut. I would actually hate to see him change his persona. I like the fact that he says whats on his mind.

Well as far as expectation, I suspect he will remain low key so he doesn't embarass himself like lastyear with his insane projections.

The most interesting aspect of the article is this...
Quote:
|
He indicated that he isn't concerned about the one major lineup question facing him in camp, saying he expects two or three of his tailbacks to share the duty of being the team's featured runner.
|
I'm starting to think that Canidate/Betts/Watson/Morton (or any combination of 2 to 3 of them) will share the carries this year. It is a VERY possible scenario...especially since Spurrier has been known to "play the player who gives the team the best chance to win".
I see a season in which NONE of the above are considered the "featured runner". It's "Running Back By Committee" on steroids...
Don't be surprised to see game stats after the game to look like this:
Betts - 10 Carries - 50 yards - 3 Receptions - 30 yards
Canidate - 12 Carries - 50 yards - 4 Receptions - 40 yards
Morton - 4 carries - 35 yards - 2 REceptions - 17 yards
My opinion? I say do WHATEVER it takes to win. If this is the right formula...then so be it.

i like the idea of the team keeping a low profile. that way, when we are whooping a**, people will be surprised and we can all say...." I told you so!" i saw on around the horn that the redskins were a subject of the buy or sell segment and all but one journalist bought the skins.....not good...

Yeah... I think Spurrier is just trying to save face from last year. You knowhe has plenty to say around the chips and beer with his buddies.

As soon as he starts winning that low profile crap will go out the window. Spurrier loves to tell it like it is.

The truth if I ever heard it!
The "Ole Ball Coach" has never been one to hold back.
He may start off the season in a quiet mood, but after the 1st victory against the Jets he will start with some of his famous "zingers"............. and how I do look forward to hearing a lot of them this season !

That is the most truthfull statement I've heard all year.
Everyone assumes "Spurrier learned his lesson. Spurrier will run the ball to win." BS...
Spurrier was publically down on himself last season for succumbing to internal/external pressures to run the ball. That will NOT happen this year.

I doubt he makes it past the first preseason game without giving headlines to someone

Thats one of the things I looked most forward to was seeing what he said during his press conferences.
I do agree GIG and dj. With our WRs this year, no way does Spurrier run the ball more. There was a reason for Spurrier to add speed at the WR spot. He realized that the former Gator WRs couldn't get the job done. What does he do? Signs other WRs so he CAN run HIS offense the way its suppose to be ran.
Fun-n-Gun will be back this year with avengance!

KING GEORGE said somethin' like this when he bought the yankees.

I think Coach learned his lesson about talking so much last season. As a matter of fact, I think he learned a lot about the NFL in just one season. I'm glad he is takeing this approach.
