Default Steroids in Football

There are steroids in the NFL and nobody gets caught unless they are searched in an airport with a whizzinator. Bill Romanowski confessed in his recent book to using steroids as recently as 2002. People seem to regard the NFL as cleaner than MLB as if the NFL policy is working 100% and MLB failed but there is no hard evidence either way. That said, this thread will have a certain amount of speculation. I, for one, an not buying this farce that all NFL players are clean. I know they have ways of beating a drug test.

What are your thoughts? Do you think all NFL players are clean? Do you think many of them are getting away with steroid/other illegal drug use? Do you think they are using cutting edge legal drugs that the NFL doesn't test for yet?

No I don't think there clean, as these freak injuries that we see every year I think are from steroids. It weakens ligaments and everybody is tearing something, it's ridiculous. And if it took the NFL that long to find out some of the panthers were on that crap (as if acne and balloon heads weren't enough... plus the buff punter), you just gotta think that they're letting some of it slide. On the other hand, it would be interesting to see what other supplemental drugs they DO let the players use to prove me wrong about my freak accident theory.

There isn't a performance enhancing drug that Romanowski didn't use (legal or not.) Are steroids being used in the nfl? I'm sure they are, but it's tested regurlarly and monitored very well by the nfl. The guys that don't mind cheating and making sure they don't get caught are few and far between, imo. Nowadays, it's pretty embarassing to test positive for them.

The NFL isn't 100% clean, but in baseball the teams are powerless to do anything against the players union. There was no real testing in place at all and players were just abusing the heck out of it and hence the era of the juiced ball.

Sad.

Romanowski confessed to using steroids in his book, but he was also a known steroid user BEFORE his book and was involved in a big scandal, only to retire just after reportedly testing positive. This niether shows nor proves anything about the NFL policy.

NFL ain't perfect, but MLB was nearly non-existant.

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/9735204/

"It is impossible to gauge the use of these so-called designer steroids. But their discovery shows how professional athletes, including Major League Baseball and National Football League players and Olympic athletes subject to regular, mandatory drug tests, continue to have at their disposal performance-enhancing products that are not detectable."

The drug companies are taking advantage of our justice system in that they know an outright ban on performance enhancing steroids would not stand up in court because the Government can only ban specific substances it knows about, and not future undiscovered drugs. Therefor, as long as the drug companies stay one step ahead of the game, they can create new kinds of steroids for the next 100 years and the FED will never keep up. Apparently, it's much easier to chemically manipulate steroids than most people know.

The fact that a known illegal drug dealer made himself rich and got a pathetic 4 months in jail only enboldens the drug companies. Of course, they are also protected by a loophole in law that allows them to call themselves dietary suppliment companies, thus side-stepping all drug regulations.
