Default Who did we miss out on in the Draft this year?

I remember at draft time I was big on some players that are doing well now. Most were even available when we picked. So I thought I would start a thread where we could look back and judge some past decisions now that our hopefuls have shown a little.

Here are the Big misses that I wanted... In the first I wanted to trade back off 9 and pick up Heath Miller and with the extra selection get Marlin Jackson both have been great this year. But the biggest Miss came in the third where I wanted either Chris Henry who is probably gonna be one of the top WRs from this Class or Chris Canty who looks like a serious Prospect too.

Here are some guys I wanted that haven't impressed me. Mike Williams although I think it is too early to judge him. I also wanted Vincent Jackson who is still years away.

So here is my list of who we missed out on that I would have drafted.

1. Heath Miller
2. Marlin Jackson
3. Chris Henry
4. Chris Canty

Any you guys where big on that we passed up for Manuel White or someone else that hasnt produced?

first off, it's still REALLY early to be saying these players are busts. it takes some guys a couple years. as for the players that went in the first round, i wouldn't change it at all. rogers and campbell are exciting young players and i don't think anyone else we could have taken would be better fits for this team. you can't judge white either...the kid broke his leg in preseason so we haven't been able to evaluate him. gotta wait a couple years to evaluate this class with any certainty.

Darren Sproles went undrafted and one of our draft picks Jared Newberry no longer is on our team in any capacity. Sproles couldve been an excellent special teamer for us maybe an even bigger role down the line. Just look at him in SD.

Im not saying its over for White or that the playeres we got arent making the grade. I was just watching some games the other day and thinking about Rookies that were getting it done and it dawned on me that alot of the guys I was high on have been producing and I wanted to gauge some players we might have missed on. Underneath this question is whether im begining to think we need a GM dedicated to bringing in talent. Ive been fine with the current Guys but im wondering if we are a little lacking in the scouting area. So I just wanted to get early returns on this years class since last years class was pretty much ST who was an easy pick IMO and Chris Cooley who is probably a soon to be household name and Pro Bowler.

Marlin Jackson wasn't gonna be taken by us in that spot.We weren't gonna take 2 CB's in the first round.

I say Heath Miller, and even Roddy White.

I don't think Manuel White will do much on this team. We reached when we picked him considering he had minimal talents, he was outplayed by Nemo and looked completely lost in the preseason until he went on IR. Personally I don't see him doing much, especially with Cooley and Sellers already established at the position, also I don't see Coach having 3 H-backs on the team next year.

I don't think anyone expected Sellers to do as well as he has.

That's exactly what i've been thinking about since the draft. But if we are going to talk about busts in this draft, what about our 6th round pick, OLB Jarred Newberry? he didnt even make the team.

then again he is only a 6th round pick, while we want to sign most of our picks it still is in essence a crap shoot. these late round picks are playing against veterans who have been here a few years and know the tricks of the trade...you need a special talent to displace someone. DAY 1 picks should stay, Day 2 picks can be reaches trying to find a diamond.

I can't say we "missed" Heath Miller, because we didn't target him. Plus, Cooley is putting up better numbers. I also can't say that we "missed" Marlin Jackson, because we "got" Carlos Rogers, and I'm very pleased with that.

I can certainly agree that we "missed" Chris Henry and Chris Canty. We had all the opportunity to get them, coupled with the need. Instead, we chose other players that probably won't have the same impact as these guys. What makes the Canty pick more upsetting is that Dallass got him.
