I agree Spence..way to go.maybe it was the contraversy or maybe more people agree with them than some people want to believe or maybe people just really like thier music, that might be the biggest reason

I have never owned a chicks album. I'm not a huge country fan, but there were a couple of songs of their's that I liked, but I do not think I will ever buy one of their albums. And it has nothing to do with what they said. As a matter of fact, I applaud them for exercising their right to say what they said.
What I do have a problem with is that as soon as fans started expressing their displeasure with what they said, other CMA ran to their defense, telling the fans, the ones who pay for the records, who have just as much right to disagree with what they said, to leave the Chicks alone, it's not right, yadda yadda yadda. That is a double standard of the highest order. Vince Gill and the rest of these political scholars are up there defending the Chicks right to free speech and at the same time telling the fans to stop booing the Chicks. Talk about a hypocrite. If you are going use you fame and popularity to make a statement like that, then you have to be ready to stand up and take the heat and IMO, the Chicks want to be able to say what they want and not catch any heat for it or expect to have to defend it. I'm not even convinced they believe what they said. I do however, believe, it had everything to do with selling records. And I have even more problems with all of their recording artists buddies (Reba McIntyre and the like)running to their defense and telling the fans to leave them alone, they've suffered enough, yadda yadda yadda.
TO the Chicks I would say "You want to exercise your right to free speech, I salute you. You don't want the heat that comes with it, keep your trap shut." YOU CANNOT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.

I am not sure I am willing to give the Chickens as much as most are. They are musicians... and that is ALL they can do. We pay them to do a service... we basically use them for our pleasure... and when we are finished using them we dont care what they think or feel. We just want them to SHUT UP and go away until we are ready to use them once again.
This goes for all those big mouthed actors in Hollywood as well who seem to think just because they can act that we, the public, give a crap what they think about anything at all.
You serve me... so shut up and act!
(I think most Americans feel this way deep down).

I like the dixie chicks music, and my wife and I have ALL their cd's. WE do not believe in their politics though. They are just good musically.
I find it appualing the hypocracy they partake in though.
They blasted Toby Kieth for his "Angry American" song in which one line says "we'll put a boot in your ass, it's the american way". The Chicks said it was a terrible example to our youth. Then at the CMA's (country music awards) they had t-shirts on that said "FU TK" (I'm sure you know what that means, and who it was directed at).
This is just one of the many "questionable" things the chicks have done. Including speaking out against the country, then blasting GW. When it comes to politics, they have no clue, music is what they are good at, and should stick to it.
