Sounds like Montgomery's very happy to be here:
Quote:
|
"My visit (to Redskin Park) was about two weeks ago and from the time I set foot in the door, it felt like home, like where I was supposed to be," said Montgomery, who didn't get that same feeling during his other pre-draft visit, to Green Bay. "(Receiver Antwaan) Randle El was talking to me like I had been on the team forever."

—Vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato said that the Redskins will sign 11 undrafted rookies as soon as the draft ends to bulk up their numbers for this weekend's rookie mini-camp.
|
Have we signed 11 already?

Pretty good article...
But if CNYSkinsFan reads this he's gonna flip out:

but the 14 players chosen on the second day during vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato's five previous drafts have combined for five starts in Washington.

I'm glad those guys aren't starting, it means we're filling our holes with free agents or better players and we're not forced to start a low round guy unless we absolutely have to. I don't think anyone can say we were a few low round draft picks from making it to the Super Bowl last year.
We fill so many holes in FA, even backup roles, that low round guys just don't get a lot of chances to play for us. I'm fine with that as long as the other guys we're bringing in are good, and they are.

I think Royal wasn't drafted by Vinny..or else the stat is wrong because it says 5 starts combined by all the players in Vinny's last 5 drafts, and Royal started more then 5 by himself (I think)..but then Lott wouldn't count either because he was drafted the same year as RR..mmmhhh I don't know..which years did Vinny leave?

not realy sure what expect out of DT Anthony Montgomery. But this would be great if he could provide depth on the D line. Hopefully this guys was a steal.

I think the only year this decade that Vinny wasn't here was 2001, the short-lived Marty era.

There are a lot of inaccuracies in that article and Vinny isn't making our picks anyway, at least since Gibbs has been here. I watched a live interview with bugeyes yesterday and he explained how the coaches tell him what they want and he does the wheeling and dealing to get them. Evidently, they had a trade in the works with Denver that didn't come to fruition, so they made the deal with the Jets instead, because the coaches wanted McIntosh but Vinny told them he wouldn't last to pick #53.

Oh see I thought it said only 5 guys started (missed the whole "five starts" part). Honestly, with the way the Redskins run this franchsie I don't expect but about 10-20% of our second day picks to ever start. We just need them to be cheap and capable depth IMO.
Rich is dead on in that Vinny is not the person doing the drafting. From what Gibbs has said, it truly is a very cooperative effort between coaches and the scouting department... Not to mention Portis, Moss, and Taylor who all lobby for anyone out of the U.

In about a year or two our whole front office will be made up of Gibbs and Portis..right now he's "assistant general manager", a scout, an aspiring offensive and defensive coordinator...haha..man I love CP, he cracks me up...

Yesterday on the radio Doc Walker compared Doughty to Mark Murphy, which is a huge compliment. Let's hope the young man can live up to it. Murphy was a smart captain of the defense and a ferocious hitter, though not exactly the fastest guy on the field. Tom Landry once said his grandmother could outrun Mark Murphy. Maybe so, but if Landry's grandmother ever came over the middle, Murphy would have lit her up like a Christmas tree.
