right now, I am happy where I am now as well. My 360 is working out just fine... actually, I may go play gears of war now.

I am much more inclined to pick up a Wii than a ps3

That's what I've been hearing. It seems that while the Xbox and the PS3 are focusing on bigger, faster and stronger boxes for incredible graphics, Nintendo has taken a different path, choosing instead to focus on the gaming experience and a lower price point. I think they're going to do very well.

In the beginning, I experienced problems with my 360. I feel that the problem was in the discs of the games, becasue the newer games that i've played i've had no problems.

I also want the Wii too, but I still can't find it anywhere.

Actually, there are PS3s available all over the place now. I've seen them at BestBuy, walmart, and target here in Fredericksburg. BestBuy.com has them for sale, and they ship the next day. The Wii and DS are still impossible to find, but word is that retailers are practically pushing PS3s on people.

I disagree, this is pretty much a last ditch effort for Nintendo to get back into the gaming market. Since they lost the Handheld war to Sony, they have to stay on somehow. Gimmicky tricks such as their controller and low price games will bankrupt them. Their graphics will also be beat badly by the 2 other systems in about 2 years. Look for Ps3 and Xbox to dominate in the coming years.

While most machines look close to identical, 2 years later, when most people have HDTV's, Ps3 will jump ahead in performance, but not enough to grab a firm lead in the gaming market.

Eh, I really don't know. Consoles usually go 5-7 years before an "upgrade" hits the market. The Wii is appealing to EVERYONE, and is hitting such a large market that it will be fine. Wii did a great job of getting unlikely gamers (Teenage Girls, Women, Older Men) to buy and enjoy the console. Not to mention, little kids love the idea of being able to run around with your video games.

Most casual gamers could care less about graphics, and that's who the Wii is targeting. There's also going to be the hardcore gamers who think it's funny and get it to try it out. Nintendo will be fine IMO and the Wii will be a hit. If any company were to take a hit in this wave of "Nex-Gen" consoles, it would be PS3. As of now, the prices are way too high for the casual to medium gamers to buy, and it looks just like the 360, if not worse. A few of my Sony loyal friends figured that it would be easier to just get the 360 becuase it is the same and costs less.

They out sold Sony by 2-to-1.

When did I miss that?

yeah that's what i was thinking. Maybe when the PsP first came out and seemed cooler it might've sold better... but after that initial interest I strongly doubt that it beat the DS.

The only #s I can seem to find for the handhelds say that nintendo sold just under 27 mill of the DS by Sept. 30, 2006, while the PSP sold just under 23 mill by the same day.

And that's not even including the Advance (which is still being sold).

I think you're missing the fact that people still buy PSP's and the stock for them is growing. They grabbed the market with the Media player and easy online capabilities. The Sales of the PSP in the Holiday season helped them catch up to the sales of the DS. While you may be thinking, "So what's the deal, the DS is still selling a bit more?" The fact of the matter is that Sony has successfully imbedded itself as a neck on neck producer of handheld gaming and multimedia with the PSP in its first year. This is breaking the long chokehold Nintendo has had on the market since the original Gameboy color.

Springfield VA has them all over the place. To buy my ps3 I had to call all over the place to finally get one. I find your statement pretty funny since when I was searching for my PS3, the Retailers were offering their Wii's to be sold.

Of course they did and my point about this being is that they sacrificed Hardware for sales. There is no telling how this is going to pan out in a couple of years, but with the 360 and PS3's having more HD support, I see Nintendo getting left out in the graphics department. Nintendo is also pretty much starting anew with 3rd party games and hardware with the Wii. Releases such as COD 3 have shown progress, Nintendo still hasn't gone as 3rd party as Sony and Microsoft has in their games. I see the consoles taking form in late '07 when most 3rd party game markets release the majority of their games, untill then the Wii will hit with SSBB, Xbox will stay mostly quiet with untill Halo 3 ships, and PS3 with MGS and RE5 shipping off( Though Those games are not PS3 exclusive, I don't see many fans of any console not buying those games)

All this ps3 praising and I still like my Xbox

How does Sony breaking into the handheld market mean that Nintendo has "lost the handheld war"?

Losing the war would mean being the #2 in the industry. And I'm sure there are just as many units of the DS being sold as there are of the PSP. Nintendo hasn't lost anything other than some market share.

And Nintendo isn't trying to compete in the graphics department. Why people can't seem to grasp this baffles me. They don't care if the super hardcore gamer doesn't like the graphics. They are going after a much broader market. My grandmother who is terrified of her computer wants to buy a Nintendo because she could use it and it was fun. They've found an untapped market.

If the PS3 and the 360 each sell 20 million units to hard core gamers and Nintendo sells 20 million to the rest of the market, Nintendo wins because they are actually making money on the hardware. Even if they don't sell the same number of consoles, gaining market share in a very tough industry would be fantastic for them.

I think you're missing the point. Ninendo is trying to woo you with hardware, they're going for gaming experience and doing a good job of it too.
