Yankees Outfield Problems
Quote:
|
"Due to this injury, I feel very sorry and, at the same time, very disappointed to have let my teammates down," Matsui said in a statement. "I will do my best to fully recover and return to the field to help my team once again. I would like to thank Joe Torre from the bottom of my heart for having been considerate of my consecutive games played streak these past several years and for placing me in the lineup every day."
|
this is the most I have ever heard from him and he sounds like an all-around nice guy but I hope he doesnt comeback too soon b/c i know from personal experience that after a break you shouldnt hurry back. it will set him back even further if he comes back too quickly.

Ken Griffey, Jr., Cincinnati Reds outfielder. Griffey has unpleasant memories of his father's playing days with the Yankees, as he was banished from the clubhouse because some members of the staff didn't like kids running around. Later in life, Griffey made it clear he would not play for the Yankees as a result of the treatment he received from the organization as a kid.
|
well, that rules out Griffey coming to play in the OF for the Yanks. I think they will stick with their own guys for awhile but realize how much of a need in the batting lineup for a consistent bat... in a few months they will go after Hunter(not enough in the Yankees farm system), Miguel Cabrera, Bobby Abreu, Brad Wilkerson, and others

If the Yankees get Cabrera I may go jump off a bridge.
That may make this a more attractive option for some of the Yankee fans on this board.

Cabrera would be at the top of my list if I were the Yankees. you get a young OF that could help the DH spot when everyone is healthy... Sheffield being the DH, if they went with Matsui, Damon, & Cabrera in the OF

Channel 4 metioned that the Yankees were intrested in the Nationals Soriano as a replacement. I don't think he would come cheap though..

Was a great catch BUT, Had it not been for a 4 hit game aginst Detroit he would be batting about .230.Currently he is batting .286 but only has 1 multi hit game.Thats where the Yankees should be worrying.

If it weren't for few bad pitches, most pitchers would go undefeated.

For a pitcher not to go undefeated its going to take alot more than just a few bad pitches. A pitchers record not only takes great pitching from him but also a decent hitting team and decent fielding team. Good example is Roger Clemens last year. 13-8 1.87 era. When a pitcher has an ERA under 2 they should have more wins than 13 and less loses than 8. BUT because of his teams inability to score runs in his starts he lost games where he only gave up 1 or 2 runs.BUT....
Back to Cabrera. His projected stats for the year are as follows... .265 20 doubles 5 triples 61 RBI's 0 homeruns 71 walks 46 strikeouts 10 steals and 10 caught stealing on base percentage of .346. Now who is he replacing in the lineup Sheffield or Matsui?? Either way his numbers are not anywhere near either of those 2 guys. Who is going to pick up the offensive slack on the team? Certainly not Cabrera. Steinbrenner will bring in a big name here before July 31st.How? Im not sure because their farm system is very weak.
