Default The NFL hates ST, but loves motorcycle Ben

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...ors.nfl/1.html

About half way down you will find this:
Quote:
Attendance at the NFL's Rookie Symposium is as revealing as it is mandatory. Since the NFL kicked off its symposium, four notable players have either reported late to it or left early over the years: quarterback Ryan Leaf, safety Sean Taylor, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones. Each has encountered varying degrees of controversy or adversity. -- NFL.com
Now, does it bother you that whenever someone wants to rag on Sean, they always list the symposium skipping incident, despite the fact that, as i recall, he was being evicted (someone help me out on this..i couldn't find an article from that far back)

and yet poster boy ben never has this same fact mentioned...?

I like Sean Taylor too but he provided them with the material to rag.

Please, bring on training camp and the season.

nothing should surprise us... it is a message to ST to stay on the straight and narrow or the league will come down hard. that is just the way it is..

You mean the media hasn't lambasted a "white-boy" QB the same way Sean was?? Say it ain't so. I know people on this board are gonna be furious when I say this, but the media and this country always hype up white athletes and are less quick to damn them when they have commited errors on or off the field. People identify less with a black kid from the city than to a midwest kid. So, no it does not bother me at all...anymore.

Your not far off with your way of thinking. The world hasn't change as much as people think it has!

Of course the NFL is going to favor Roethlisberger, he is a Quarterback who just won the Super Bowl. Sean Taylor is a Safety who just beat assault charges.

Get a grip, "lambasted"?

Exactly how does this article lambaste? If anything the quote is meant to rub salt in the wounds of Rothlisberger's motorcycle accident by mentioning him with an over-rated hot-head and two pseudo-thugs with ethical/legal troubles. It's like the quote is saying, "Hey this isn't the first time Ben used bad judgment, he's just like theses three guys."

Which is a stupid point to try and make; but then again, it's typical SI type logic.

Does probation and possible suspension in the NFL mean "beat?"
And refresh my memory, on what two players did Rothilsberger spit?

I don't know what you're trying to show here, because you're proving my point. That is why the NFL favors Roethlisberger over Taylor.

My point is the NFL isn't "favoring" anybody. Anything negative that Taylor has gotten he has brought on himself. The same thing goes for Rothilsberger and most other players. It just happens that Taylor has brought it on himself more than 98% of the other players with his tenure.

It's funny. We go through the same lengthy offseason every year, yet we never get used to it and probably even get a little antsy about this time. Granted, things seem to be different this particular offseason.

I'm not furious with you but I think you could look elsewhere for evidence of institutionalized racism than the NFL. All flavors of idiots get second chances in the league, white, black , pacific islander, you name it. How many strikes did Lawrence Phillips get? Ricky Williams? More or less than Ryan Leaf?

Last time I checked, Ray Ray got away with aiding and abetting murder if not outright committing it. But he is a superstar. If you want to look for who gets favored in the league, look for who puts butts in seats and plays well on TV.

good thing you know that facts of the case to go out on a limb, to say that ray lewis definetly aided a murder, if not outright commiting the murder...

agSDJKLasdg <---- me pounding my head on my keyboard in frustration

but hey, ray lewis is a muderer cuz i saw something on outside the lines where the victims brother was crying.... (ROLLS EYES AND SMACKS HEAD)

seriously though, ray lewis definetly outright commited murder. good thing paul t and the NFL got him off when everyone knows that ray lewis killed a man in cold blood.

EDIT: sorry for my beligerant drunken reply, but i find your ppost extremely offensive LOL

You can find offense in my post if you like. I don't watch Outside the Lines, so I don't know what you are referring to. What I am referring to is the matter of the public record of the trials in which the the indisputable facts involved are that he arrived with the men that Ray himself testified said they stabbed the victims, drove them away from the scene, lied to police, had the blood of one of the murder victims in his limo, etc. Did Ray do the deed? The courts said no but they said the same thing about OJ. If you find the implication that Ray might be guilty because his white floorlength fur coat he wore to the club where two men were killed disappeared as if by magic after the fight and having the blood of a dead man in his limo, well, be offended. You or I would likely be sitting in prison right now if we were in similar circumstances. Which is the point of the post. Money equals power equals second chances. The only color that really matters is green.
