Talking Funny

I was just on the Eagles' Official Site. While I was there, I saw a poll asking whether the team was better than they were this time a year ago or not. 56% said yes.

I honestly think they are better than last year. I highly doubt they will get 12 wins again but as a team they are better.

They looked pretty good on Monday night against a good Saints team.

Maybe they're all hoping for a healthy McNabb for 16 games primed and ready for the playoffs? Their fans understand that they have a heck of a coaching staff and system in place. Who knows what will happen. Its the NFL.

Coaching staff is the best in the NFL. Loss of Hugh Douglass hurts, though, and Troy Vincent is not getting any younger. McNabb will keep them near the top.

This will be the last season for Vincent and Taylor, so they had better hope the youngins step up. But it always seems as of late it works for them. Reid gets a lot of crap ( for screwing around the vets) but he does know what he is doing

Why do you feel this way?
The Eagles lost more than just thier backbone in douglas, they lost Shawn Barber, Brian Mitchell, Dorsey Levens (don't laugh, he was an important role player for you guys last year), Antonio Freeman, Al Harris and Blaine Bishop. Others that you lost were Cecil Martin, Jeff Thomason, Doug Brzezinski, and Barry Gardner.

Who did you sign?
Jon Ritchie, Nate Wayne, and Mark Simoneau.

How can you possibly think you got better?

I had a Eagle fan tell me if they don't win it all, then the coach should be fired.

McNabb can't do it all. They are still good, but this year the Eagles come back to the pack. All the NFC East teams got better. (doesn't mean they will be dethroned per say, but it's important to note)

Douglas-
Loss hurts but Kalu/McDougle and a healthy Burgess should make up for it

Shawn Barber-
Nate Wayne, wash

Brian Mitchell-
this one hurts but it also clears up a roster spot since thats all Mitchell can do

Dorsey Levens-
Who cares.... Buckhalter is way better than him and thats who Levens replaced last year

Antonio Freeman-
A good slot reciever. They have a 1 year deal out there for him but he still thinks he can start somewhere. If Mitchell and Billy McMullen continue to play well... Freeman won't be needed.

Al Harris-
They drafted Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown for a reason. Plus the 2nd rounder was used to get McDougle, to replace Hugh. He's a good player but he was a tradeable commodity.

Blaine Bishop-
He badly missed Jerevicious last year in the NFC title game (sorry haven't gotten over that play yet Seriously though, Michael Lewis takes his place. The 2nd year player had 11 tackles and a sack last year in the eagles playoff win. Big upgrade here in my opinion.

Cecil Martin-
Obvious upgrade in Jon Ritchie.

Jeff Thomasen-
Old, the eagles hope LJ smith replaces him and than Chad Lewis in a year or two. He won't be missed other than in the red zone.

Doug Brezinski-
The eagles have very little depth at o-line and Doug will be missed. He wanted a chance to start though so he left.

Barry Gardner/Levon Kirkland-
Mark Simeneau is an unknown.... but he can't be any worse than the platoon Philly had last year.

All in all.... we lost some players but gained some at different spots. Jim Johnson has a great defensive system and can basically put anyone in there as long as they have that great secondary. The offense has all of its players back (aside from Duce... jurys still out on him) plus it added LJ Smith, Ritchie, and Billy McMullen.

I could see them taking a step backwards in defense maybe but their offense will be as good if not better than last year.

You want to know how good the Eagles system is? They made winners out of Feely and the other guy, which his name is escaping me right now.

Notice I didn't say Eagles are. Its their system. The players believe in it. It doesn't really matter how good McNabb plays. The system will always be there for them.

A lot of NFC East teams said "wait till Donovan gets hurt and we'll see how good the Eagles are." Well, that happened last year and the Eagles didn't miss a step.

I'm not going to count those guys out until there's a reason too.

What would you do? What's you opinion on last year's title game? Would you blame it on conservative play calling or something else? Just curious because I've heard several people (Eagle's fans) say the blame Reid.

I blame the conservative playing as well. I think Ried has a great eye for judging talent and he can get a team prepared with the best of them but he is a below average play calling coach. As said above, his system works but I'd like to see more of the offense be done by the offensive coordinator. Maybe the change would have the effect as it did on the giants where they changed play calling duties while having the same personnel on offense.

I hope it comes down to the 'Skins and the Eagles battling it out for the post season!!!!!!!
The "igles" always seem to manage to put a team together that raises hell in the NFC !
No.............. that does not mean that I like them any better!
