amen to that.. he died doing what he loved and would have preferred, my guess, to have gone that way rather than any other-- albeit far far into the future.

prayers for his family

It's too bad. It's what happens when you mess with dangerous animals for a living, but it's a shame regardless.

This is tragic. He had a real zest for life, which you could tell in all of his TV appearances, whether it was Animal Planet or Leno. I expected him to be teaching us about creatures for years to come. RIP.

Im pretty sad for his family he seemed like a dedicated father... I still remember pretending to be him one day, Me and my buddys found a nice secluded sandbar in hawaii. We had borrowed a couple bucket of range balls and we were hitting them into the ocean. it was only waist deep for like 500 yards and the water was crystal clear so we walked out to get the balls. Thats when we came across quite a few sand sharks(might explain why the beach was secluded), well in a drunken state instead of making way to the shore me and another drunken buddy grabbed a camera and pretended to be Croc hunters. We never got close enough to get a real good picture but the funny part was that me and my drunk buddy were getting laughed at by the third drunken fool for chasing sharks. Only thing is he was waste deep watching and while he was standing still watching us a sand shark had swam up to him and his tail came out of the water like 3 ft infront of him. Ive never seen anyone walk on water but my buddy Brad came close.....Oh those drunken beach golf Army days. How did i ever survive to be 25?

We're pretty upset by this news. My oldest son does a pretty good imitation of Steve Irwin. It was pretty funny since he was only 5 or 6 years old when he first started.

RIP SI

Yeah, its so odd that somehow this guy actually managed to become a big part of most of our lives. I have impersonated him so many times and he just seemed like a really, really great guy with an incredible compassion for wildlife and its creatures.

Rest in Peace, Mate.

Very sad news, much like everyone else here I really enjoyed watching Steve. He seemed to be a geniunely nice guy that loved what he did despite the dangers. What a wy to go though, i never heard of a stingray stinging anyone through the heart... RIP Steve.

Ah man that is really bad news. That's the first thing I saw this morning when I got up. As previously stated, at least he died doing what he loved so much. But for some reason I thought he was one who would be like an Evil Kenevil (i.e. perform fantastic feats and live through them).
