When will the day come that the Redskins will find a dependable, young kicker? It's been so long since we've had one I can hardly remember.

We had David Akers for a cup of coffee.

Yes we did. And it pains me even more that he ended up with a divisional rival.

Chip Lohmiller was the last young gun to come in.
Good move by Sd. The kid has been lights out lately.

That is a name synonomous with the first Gibbs era. Saw him late in his career a bit however always heard lots of good stories of his kicking.

Interesting that on one hand we as a fan base criticise Gibbs for being loyal when a player struggles, but on the other hand, quite a few good players have gotten away from us b/c another coaching staff wasn't patient enough.
I truly believe we would have won a championship had Akers stayed (assuming he played up to the level we see now).

Actually, it was Norv's patience with first Blanton and then Conway that caused the whole Kicker carousel in the first place. Akers was brought in and released after one week(after he had a kickoff returned for a TD), after Blanton was finally cut and then finally, Blanchard took over. Did I mention that LeCharles McDaniel was the ST coach then?
Anyhow, I believe Conway limped through Norv, Marty and then went out in the first game of the Spurrier era. The significance of that is we had Jay Feely in camp that year. He looked a heck of a lot better than Conway but got cut for the sake of keeping the veteran around.
At least, that's how I remember it...

there is a big big difference between commenting upon a player based upon 1 or 2 games as opposed to a full season or more of observation.
only norv really saw what akers had to offer. as fans we saw maybe 1 game? frost has demonstrated for 2 seasons now and hall for even longer than that. i think it is fair to comment upon them.. we might be wrong and it does not include what goes on in practice, but i think it is fair...
