The Refs still stink
The refs continue to stink throughout the NFL. They completely stole the game from the Chargers. Absolute hogwash. Mike Carey and his crew found every way to call a penalty against the Chargers in the last 7 minutes of the game. Terrible. This has to stop.

Basically they just started calling everything possible on the Chargers and turned a blind eye towards any possible penalties the Ravens committed. Every incompletion was a defensive hold. Ravens would encroach and false start would be called. It was a total joke.

skins were lucky as well.. they got the benefit of a dubious call in the fumble recovery by campbell.. it looked like the jag player did have his knee down.. it was very close

i was going to say they needed full time refs.. but given how bad the nba refs are, there is no guarantee that would improve things either..

I agree, and said so during the game thread. I think there is a very real home field advantage that exists as these calls always seem to go the way of the home team, unless you are playing the colts or steelers.

if they fired all the refs that stink, they wouldn't have a complete crew to ref every game.. so many are just turkeys

Apparently they were scared for their lives from what Ray Ray and his hooligans may do to them had they not. Sucks for SD.

You guys tend to think officials play favorites in a particular game. Why is that? Do you think they are getting paid? What would they get out of favoring a particular team over the the other? Curious to hear your response.

Well, Marty didn't help the cause, either. I knew in the 3d quarter that he was going to find a way to lose that game. The Chargers dominated Baltimore, but he stopped passing in the second half (they ran 12 times in a row at one point) and the Ravens managed to squeak things out. Philip Rivers was looking pretty good, too.
Did you see the Cincy-NE game? Talk about bogus calls, one of the Bengals secondary guys made a great play on a Pats receiver in the redzone to break up a pass, and they called him for a personal foul. That was crazy. He knocked the crap out of the receiver, but that's what he's supposed to do. The announcers said he was being called for a helmut2helmut, but it didn't look that way to me. The Pats went on to score a TD, and the game was pretty much over after that.

that came down to "unrefutable evidence"...there apparently wasn't an angle that showed where the ball was when the knee touched.
