Springs Contemplating Move to Safety
http://www.washtimes.com/sports/2006...5510-5157r.htm
Springs likes Vincent's switch
By David Elfin
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
November 11, 2006
Troy Vincent's successful transition to strong safety after 13-plus seasons and five Pro Bowl seasons at cornerback has gotten Washington Redskins teammate Shawn Springs thinking.
Vincent, then 33, made the switch late in the 2004 season in Buffalo. Springs, a Pro Bowl corner for Seattle in 1998 and an alternate for the Redskins in 2004, will be 32 next season.
"I think I could make that move," Springs said. "I would love to do it. I could play another two or three years at corner and then move to safety for another two years. It would depend on whether [the Redskins] would want me to do it."

Whatever keeps him on the field longer. Awesome player with an awesome attitude. We were lucky to get him.

It would be a great move for us if we let vincent go and archuleta stays on his path to hell. but then we would still have problems at corner...

I have no problems with SS thinking this way. The only worry I had was that he might move prematurely but it seems that he has a pretty good bead on the situation. Shawn Springs rocks and is a real Redskin.

I don't think he means this season. And keeping him would be good. We've got time to think about new corners after the season.

i think was the thought of the staff when they signed him to the long term deal at his age
If this is the case, then we have a playmaker at safety who will be great in coverage and is one of the better tacklers!!! nice!!!
leaves us short at corner, plus we still need d-line, o-line, maybe a MLB (Though i think marshall will work for the next 2 years).
wish we had those 3-6 round picks to develop players in a system, for cheap, then sign them long term (corner comes in and learns to play properly, or even a MLB)....
anyway, way to go springs, stay classy

I have thought about whether it would be a good move if the skins drafted a CB with next year's #1 (if we have the pick) and groomed him to start once and if Springs moved to S in a couple years.
I like the idea

We already have an awesome cover safety in Archuleta..why would we need another one?

Sort of like how big dudes who play the outfield move to DH when they age. An intelligent decision, but I'd like to see him add about 5 lbs to his frame for that. Which should be doable as he ages.

It sounds like a great idea to me assumming we draft a young corner in the next draft, and allow Springs to mentor him for a season or two.

If I recall, Akh suggested this a couple of weeks ago for next season or beyond. I thought it was a good idea, though admittedly pure speculation. It's good to see that he's trying to prolong his career. He could be a coach in the secondary for 3 or 4 more years if he did this.

It was probably this kind of thinking that led to the fall of the Roman Empire!

If he does make the move then we'd have a solid set of safety's although they'd be slightly aged. I think CRogers will pull out of his slump but that still leaves a hole on the other side. I'd love to see us nab a #1 pick corner out of college but knowing the Skins, we'll probably over pay for a big name in FA.

If Akh had huge eyeballs we could dress him up as Vinny and let him be our quasi-GM...all he would have to do is learn to say "yes sir" a bit more...
