Default GOP Returns Trent Lott to the leadership

The ol' Mississippi white supremacist is back in the saddle again.
Quote:
Lott returned to the center of power by getting the position of vote-counting GOP whip, nosing out Sen. Lamar Alexander. Sen. Rick Santorum told reporters that Lott beat Alexander by a 25-24 vote.

After an intense evening in which both men lobbied colleagues during floor votes, the Republican caucus elected Lott, a one-time whip and majority leader, by secret ballot. Lott will be the GOP's second-in-command to Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who was elected unanimously to be the Senate minority leader in the new Congress.
Segregation today, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever!

Why does Santorum know what the vote count was?

You have to know Lott was secretly in glee whne the GOP was forced from the majority in the Senate after he was forced from the Majority leader.

i am not a fan of lott... but i will say that i find this no more repugnant than byrd's power inthe dem party.. they are cut fromthe same cloth (white sheets).. and do not start that stuff about byrd being reformed.. it won't wash (sheets never do come totally clean)..
so before you start throwing stones make sure that the dems house is in order.

Shally, I'll throw stones at anyone I damn well please. It's my site.

And just for the record, everyone, I'm in love with this development. With Newt and DeLay gone, Lott will be very useful to the Democrats. Nothing like kicking ol' Trent around. I guess we won't hear too much about Ken Mehlman's "outreach" to African-Americans anymore.

It's not necessary to debate this issue, Shally, with people who see no difference between something that happened 60 years ago and something that happened four years ago. But debate really isn't the point. This is about savaging the Republicans -- winning the political combat against the GOP and their allies among the "Fox News independents." Lott is correctly seen to be a racist by all Democrats, virtually all true independents, and a fair chunk of the GOP. [Google what many Republican pundits wrote about Lott in 2002.] Robert Byrd is only an issue for the Dem-hating dead enders. His presence in the party has never cost the Dems a single vote among African-Americans. Not one.

Your right....something someone did in their 20's or 40 years ago and apologized ad nauseum is absolutely equal to something someone did as a mature adult while majority leader of the Senate and barely admitted let alone apologized for it.

Come on guys get the GOP whacking sticks ready. We have our lineup ready to go. Kennedy and Chapaquidick, Clinton and Monica, whatever you do don't talk about the current GOP agenda only alleged misdeeds the Democrats did years ago!!!!

Virtually no one outside this forum cares about any of that stuff. Behold the results of the elections. Iraq Iraq Iraq. The nation would kill for the chance to trade President Iraqmire for another two years of President Boner.

Cause pandering is pandering no matter how many Klan members there are.

Note to non-lefties: Dead people in Kennedy vehicles and Klan leaders from West frickin Virginia are old news. Complimenting a former colleague is racism. You can check Amazon.com for the book "Hypocrisy: Thy Name is Democrat" that I am publishing soon.
