Default Any metal heads out there?

I consider myself to listen to a very wide range of music. I don't like genre over another. A friend of mine gave me a mix cd, and I heard one song on this cd that made me go, wow. Its by Dragonforce, and while normally i'm not into heavy metal, the guitar riffs were just absolutely sick. Has anyone else listened to these guys?

I'm more of a classical-head but I listen to metal mainly becaise I have a few friends who evangelize it. Lately I've been listening to Children of Bodom. They're not that heavy and a little glam but man are they good musicians! Every one of them can solo, read music, and they write good stuff too. On youtube two of them play a Bach invention.

Here's one of their tunes. The solos at 3:00 are pretty good IMO.

I've been kind of iffy on buying it, but I happened to stumble across some of their music online

They are good, but I haven't seen them in person or anything, but I was just amazed by the drum and guitar speed.

I know lots of people that like them on a metal forum I frequent. They are just a bit too polished and happy sounding for my taste but I'm not much a fan of power (flower) metal. They definitely do shred though.

Their lead singer looks like Wierd Al. At the very beginning of that vid I thought it was a joke. Man are they glam!

What's weird is that I heard that on that song, it won numerous awards for best guitar work or some other award like that for 2006.

It helps if you don't watch the videos. I thought the playing was pretty good.

i dont really like metal. atleast the new stuff, too much screaming vocals, and to me, it seems like the guitarists would rather show fast they can play and how skilled they are, rather than just playing something that sounds good. but the drums are amazing.

my brothers loves the genre though, so thats how i get stuck listening to it. but some songs i do like. in flames - clayman is sick.

I hear ya. I pretty much block out all the vocals when I listen to metal. Most of the time their lyrics are pathetic anyway. At least in death metal.

If you can tolerate the cheesiness, the playing is top notch. Like I said earlier, that style is just not my thing.
If you want, I can recommend a lot of traditional metal, current or old, to check out.
