given that tight ends tend to be undervalued, it might end up being okay.. still, it would be cheaper to lock him up now

I think I'm gonna train to be a tight end this year. If Robert Royal can get big money, I can get at least a $1 million signing bonus.

I think at some point even kickers are gonna start getting $5 million dolalr signing bonuses..
But fortunately, given the position, we at least have the option of franchising Cooley..had he been pretty much any other position, I don't know if that was still gonna be a possibility...

totally agree... i think we have options with cooley to see what the market is before signing him long term or getting a #1 pick in return

I don't remember what the numbers are, but I think the salary for franchising a safety (Taylor) aren't preposterous either...

I actually think the Patten cut was more in line with the Arch trade. Roughly same cap hi and savings.

and i think that patten was not going to make the squad this year as his contract was due to increase.. they cut him and it gave him a chance to look for a team..

yep. That too.

I think we roughly hav anywhere from 5-8 million in cap roiom. Our draft picks will take up a bit of that and then ...hopefully ...extensions for Cooley & Taylor.

Sounds like a good gameplan, guys, and I can see how the cap savings was in line with the Arch trade. What about the 500K we're losing out on by cutting him now? I'm guessing that we're using the June 1st cut rule for Patten? Or just letting that 500K go?
