Default The Masters

Tiger didn't win but I must say that was one I enjoyed watching. So many of them had opportunities to win it. Zach wasn't safe until Tiger's 2nd shot at the 18th. If Tiger had hit more fairways, I think we would have taken it. To miss them and still be in it at end speaks volumes. That shot from behind the tree where he broke his club was just awesome.

Congrats go out to Zach Johnson, a class act, for winning his first major. I thought for sure a playoff was pending when Johnson slid that putt by on 17, but the course was too tough for anybody, including Tiger Woods, to play catch up. Man conditions were brutal this week. The amount of confused faces throughout the week on the 12th was amazing to watch. Not often do I see these incredible players look so baffled and helpless.

Those greens were ridiculous. I have never seen so many missed putts. Seeing some of these guys 3 putt or 2 putt from 3 feet away, made me cringe. What did they do to those greens, coat them with teflon?

I can't imagine how much Augusta is going to have to water the greens before the members get back on the track. Otherwise pace of play is going to be brutal.

Another note from yesterday. I was amazed at, what appeared to me, to be premature celebrations by the Johnson entourage. It almost seemed as though they forgot Tiger was still on the course and only 2 back. Although a comeback was unrealistic given the conditions and setup, if there was a player who could overcome, it was the man chasing. Overall this was a great tournament to watch, IMO. So many lead changes.

I don't know anything about golf...or the PGA tour...but I tuned into the Masters for an hour yesterday and watched one of the coolest putts. The dude hit a slow-rolling 50-footer in a semi-circle pattern before hitting the bottom of the cup. Really cool putt.

Most of the greens at Augusta have slope and I mean a lot of it. Prime example #13 Par 5. Tigers shot went the back of the green, look to settle, and then comes back down toward the pin. Also, those greens are like oiled racetracks. Hit the ball and it takes off. How many times did you see guys barely bring their putters back and just tap the ball and it goes about 20-30 feet.

I was cringing during that. I thought it was wrong that CBS was even interviewing him then. That almost never happens, usually the tv crews stay away from a guy who may need to get ready for a playoff. But I was pretty sure Zach had the tournament in the bag, because Tiger had played 17 and 18 like crap all week. I'm really glad Tiger lost; I'm pretty sick of him. I was pulling for the field this week, and I'm really glad a young American golfer stepped up and won

Personally I would have been on the range or putting green if I were him, expecting a playoff until hearing otherwise.

Agree, I thought that was in poor taste as well. The cameras didn't have to cover it even though it took place.

When you say sick of Tiger do you mean because of his winning?

I must also note that I don't care for the type of reporting that is going on now that Zach has one. People are reporting as if Zach beat Tiger in a one-on-one match. Headlines I've seen are "Tiger Slayer" and "Go On, Beat a Tiger". Why is this? There was more than just Tiger there to beat and Phil was the defending the champion. I just don't get it but it probably explains why some folks are tired of Tiger.

Oh and Zach has this to say about Tiger "giants gotta fall at some point.". I'm sure this is being put in Tiger's memory bank.

I didn't watch a single hole of the Masters, but the answer is simple. Tiger sells. The media is generating hype and storyline where one doesn't exist. I am not a huge fan nor am anti-Tiger, but I generally always like to see a new person/team win so I was happy that I had never heard of this guy before.

No, I'm sick of him for a lot of reasons. It ticks me off that he basically skipped the entire first quarter of the tour, and didn't play in big tournaments like Pebble Beach and Riviera, instead going to Dubai and cashing a big check. More and more, he seems to just play in the tournaments where he's got sponsors paying for him to play.

I'm really ticked that he killed the International. That was one of the best tournaments on tour for the last twenty years. It always had a strong field, even when it was stuck the week before the PGA. All of the top foreign players played in it (VJ, Sergio, Retief, Ernie) as well at the top Americans (Phil, Davis, etc). The tour players loved it because it was fun, and according to them one of the best run tournaments on tour. But Tiger didn't play in it for the past 6 years, and it ran into problems finding a sponsor this year, and now it's gone. Oh, and how convenient that was for Tiger. Now he's taken over that slot on tour with his own tournament. And guess who the sponsor is? It's AT&T. I wonder how he got them to sponsor his tournament. Well, he skipped Pebble Beach for the first time in his career, and then a month later, they've decided to pick up the tab on his new tournament. I think it's total BS.

I just don't like the way things have evolved during the Tiger era. It's all about him now. If he doesn't play in a tournament, that tournament is pretty much screwed. It makes life really easy for the sportswriters and radio guys, because now all they have to do is write and talk about Tiger, and everyone else is irrelevant.

What else don't I like about Tiger? I don't really like his attitude. He was acting like a kid who'd had his blankie stolen yesterday. Seriously, you'd think he could act like he'd been there before. On the 17th hole, when his approach landed short in the bunker, you could hear him yell "Someone tell me what the hell just happened?" I'll tell you what happened, Tiger. You came up short, just like everyone else who played that hole yesterday. And I thought it was pretty sad that Stuart Appleby had to console him as they were walking up to the 18th green. I mean, come on. Yesterday was a much bigger day for Appleby. He's never won a major before, and he was the 54 hole leader. He showed a helluva lot more class than Tiger did, if you ask me.
