Yes I feel the same way, two young guys that work very hard, with huge upside. Anderson is my pick because of his ability to get to the QB. Okoye has skills as well, but I always feel myself partial to the DEs. Its hard to find a DE that can rush the QB and hold his own against the run.

Okoye will be an excellent ambassador for the team. I'm really hoping for this kid. He's got Gibbs written all over him. I can already hear Joe in his post draft news conference:
"I think we got a guy that's super smart, has great character..."

imo that is exactly what it is
There is a link on another thread to the cap room that has a page showing the effect of releasing certain players pre June and post June 1. As an example, Springs will count $90k towards the cap pre 6/1, and contribute over $4M of space after 6/1. Wynn's increase in cap relief is also substantial. IMO this is why we have the same crew now - it pays to keep them until June 1.

You’re right about savings after June 1, but your numbers are not correct.

If he remains on the roster, Shawn Springs counts $7.36 million against the cap in 2007 and $7.48 million against the cap in 2008.

If released or traded prior to June 1, he counts $7.45 million against the cap for 2007 and $0 against the cap in 2008. If released or traded after June 1, he counts $2.48 million in 2007 and $4.97 million in 2008.

If they wanted to trade him on draft day, they could probably agree to the terms, but not actually execute the trade until after June 1 (I’m guessing).

I’m not advocating trading Shawn Springs. Dead money is a killer. He is also our best CB (when healthy) and he is a class act. IMO, he is still serviceable and is worth more to us on our team than off our team.

I don't get the love affair with Okoye??? I think he has amazing upside and he'll be a great pro, but it might take a couple years... Doesn't this team need the most NFL ready player they can get in round 1?

I think we need to get high-quality youth into our DLine first and foremost. This quick fix plug the leaks in the dam just doesn't work if the foundation is flawed.

Drafting Okoye would definately indicate a sign of patience being exhibited by our FO. Which is why I still think our FO is leaning towards double L if he's there at 6.

Whether we draft Okoye, Anderson or Carriker there will be a learning curve. The upside is that they are significantly better than the players they are replacing - even with their inexperience. If we draft Anderson he would have to be a massive bust not to be able to beat 1/2 sacks a season that Wynn is averaging. Somehow I think Jamaal can run faster than a 34 year old Daniels.

Okoye I think is really intriguing because:

He's freakin' smart, level-headed
highly motivated and good family story
And has an upside because he will grown more and get stronger.
Possible franchise player for a decade.

So true, It doesnt matter who we draft on the DL it is going to be a learning curve. We just have to have patience with whomever it is. The line is getting older and slower, so its ideal to address it now. I mean 2 extremely good prospects, that we can argue back and forth about which to choose. At the end of the day though, as long as we get one of these guys Im happy.

the learning curve isnt nearly as hard for a dlinemen as it would be for landry

True, I agree and again I am all for a DL, even two if we trade down. In Landry's defense though he is very smart, and I see him really succeeding on the next level, but hopefuuly not as a skin.

Exactly, ST didn't start for 6 games. Landry will be competing against PP, who if healthy, ain't to shabby.

Finally - it isn't whether LL is a Ronnie Lott clone - what matters is how he plays alongside ST. They seem too similiar too me and may not compliment each others play style.

Anderson or Okoye will be in the rotation for some of the plays the first game.

john keim at warpathinsiders.com says he thinks its all smoke because they are too much alike (landry and st that is)he thinks they stay at 6 and grab okoye unless quinn is available(best chance of moving down)

Atlanta may chose to move up for Landry though!
