Question Peter King trying to get closer to 'Skins?

Is it me, or has Peter King softened a bit on the 'skins lately?

1) He quotes Joe Gibbs today (below) in a positive light

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...mqb/index.html

"I think a lot of these guys were probably on the dinner circuit. They haven't been working out as much... They probably need a wakeup call to what this will be all about.''
-- Washington coach Joe Gibbs

2) he wrote a pre-draft column about hanging out with the Danny and Gibbs and chatting them up (King: "so who should I give you in my mock draft, Dan?", Snyder: "Give me Calvin Johson!", King: "OK, now go make it happen".

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...ngs/index.html

3) He praises our *NOT* mortaging the farm for Johson and calls "H.B. Blades going in the fifth? The Redskins stole him. Just stole him."

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...9/draft/5.html

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...und/index.html

I know he also turned around said he would vote for Monk for HOF, though not sure if he helped persuade others. As part of this campaign, he spent some time w/ coach Joe talking about Monk's intangibles.

Is this some scheme to try to reach "trusted insider" status at the skins' that Pastabelly could not get? Did he really like coach Joe? Or is this kissing up to The Danny on the HOF committee?

Who knows.
Thoughts?

My thoughts.

1. He's softening us up for his next smackdown.

2. He genuinely has come to know and admire The Danny.

3. He's sucking up to get the once and future GM job.

4. He and Pastabelly are playing the Good media slob/Bad media slob ploy.

I don't see how the first quote is sucking up to the skins in any way. And he might just have really liked that we took Blades so late(he wasn't the only one, one of FoxSports' guy loved the pick) and that we didn't trade up for Johnson(or trade away future picks).

It's not any one quote that leads to my thoughts he's changing his 'tude. It's the whole body of evidence. The 1st quote is not a suck up quote, but he has rarely paid such generally positive attention to the skins in the past.

Maybe he missed his buddy Parcells and thinks he can get close to another team.

But there's only one quote that falls into that category. I think the assumption that he's changing his attitude because of some campaign he's trying to get closer to the skins is hard to accept. And he said that Spurrier would take the skins to the Super Bowl i think.

Funny, I have had the same thought his last few pieces. At the very least, he has backed off bashing the Skins.

Not only does he give the Gibbs quote, but he also gives the HS coach talking about Landry quote.

I think one thing it shows is that he is at least paying attention. He is reading and researching rather than giving the same tired stories or quotes about the Skins.

I always read his stuff, so in that respect I'm glad because I prefer to not read negative things about the Skins, but on the other hand, I am waiting for the day when I can run into King and/or Zimmerman since both live within a few towns of me so that I can confront them on their bias. If King completely turns, I'll have nothing to debate with him.

I have no love for KING or SI and none of this changes my feelings. Fatsqueerelli is still the worst IMO. King is just goofy and his writing style doesn't appeal to me at all.

Honestly gang... I think he's sucking up to Skins Fan Nation. Several posters on our board as well as others have refused to read King's articles. With the bashing of a real HOF quality player like Monk, I think fans of other NFL teams have stopped reading him as well. I think his actions are coming back to haunt him with a dip (whether it's a minor one or not) of readership at his site. This is just a ploy to get us all to increase the number of "hits" to his site.

Don't fall for the trap. Please QUOTE ALL RELEVANT material from his articles. If ONE of us has to go to his site, please don't put the rest of us in a position of having to go there to read what was said. That's just helping King get what he wants in the end..... more hits.

I guess his style is not for everyone. I don't even consider it a column, almost more like a twice-weekly blog. Columns don't have stuff like his thoughts on coffee, the Sopranos, etc.

Taken as a column, it's not great.

Read it like a blog and it's readable - I have seen much worse.

Like most writers (finger pointed to self also), he can get a little full of himself though.

Believe me...I highly doubt Peter King would kiss up for a few thousand website hits. The guy is plastered all over TV and he gets a lot of press for his publication, regardless if we like him or his rag or not. Seems to me that he wants to get in good with the Redskins and be their future "scoop" on all signings. Even if every single Redskin fan boycotted him (which is virtually impossible b/c I'm guessing most of our fans dont' give a crap), the lowered readership on his site or for his magazine would probably be minimal and not even on SI's radar.

The safest thing to do is to assume that what Peter King writes is what Peter King believes. That's the most logical explanation. I really doubt Peter King or any other successful NFL analyst gives a damn what HR or ES or any other Skins site thinks of him.

I see this as a positive turn, but just the start toward more balanced writing about the Redskins. The problem this last decade is that the 'skins always look great on paper in the spring and then fade when the season progresses.

I think the change toward building a team more via the draft and keeping all the picks for next season has impressed writers that the team is working toward more long-term improvements which will result in more wins over the long haul.

don't like it. Whenever he cozies up to you, he's actually using an old philosophy.

"My friends I keep close, my enemies, I keep closer"

He only wants to know what pisses them off and when the season starts he'll abandon his chuminess to once again SCREW the Skins on the HOF, and make sure to spike the punch during, before and after each game.

Never have I seen so much hate, obvious to everyone, but not apparent to the wearer.
