I can see our FO throwing in a 2nd round pick in order to trade Brunell...
Wouldn't surprise me a bit.
Seriously, I don't see Gibbs getting rid of Brunell this close to the season and TC. If you watched the show last night on ComCast, you'd know a similar situation came up with Doug Williams at the beginning of the '92 season. Williams wanted to be a starter. So Gibbs almost pulled the sting to trade DW. Then at the last second thought better of it.
No way will Gibbs let this happen. I'll be shocked if this happens.

Either one of the youngster... Bramlet or Palmer. And I understand that the backup position is something that shouldn't be taken lightlybut if we've got a proven youngster at starter and a guy that could be our backup for years, why do we need 37 yr old Brunell? Honestly, this is his last year with the team... so why not send him to the Falcons and get some trade value?
I mean be fair RR, who's going to be the backup next year when BOTH Brunell and Collins will be FA and over the age of 37?

Bramlet was released in the first wave of cuts last year, during preseason and was just re-signed this past January and was then sent to Europe. He has barely practiced with the Skins at all.

Wasn't that the '82 season? I think that's a typo...
While it's true that Coach didn't want to trade him to the Raiders, wasn't Williams much younger than Brunell? I'll ask you the same question I asked RR, who would be our backup next year when Collins and Brunell are BOTH over 37??

Irrespective of noodle arms and understanding schemes - if Campbell goes down, out of all the QB's we have, only Brunell is capable of managing the game, ie, not losing it.
I say don't trade him - particularly as we'd only end up with a second day pick...

I thought he was on our Practice Squad last year and "officially signed" back on to the roster in January when there is no PS... or am I mistaken?

Why can't one or the other be our backup at 37? I'm 37!

If we trade Brunell we leave ourselves very much in trouble. If Campbell gets hurt we would basicly be screwed. Keeping Brunell is i believe a vital part to a good season.

One more thing R4L, why is it so hard to believe that Brunell would be our backup at 37, and to think atlanta would want him to be their starter at 37?

I understand that thought but for those of you saying we would leave ourselves screwed.... didn't we basically do that in '05 with Brunell, Collins and a rookie Campbell?? And if we're only looking for Brunell to MANAGE a game, why couldn't Bramlet or Palmer do just the same?

no, i'd feel much more comfortable with an experienced veteran who not only has plenty of starting experience, but has been a winner as well. i wouldnt want campbell, heaven-forbid something happens to him, to be backed up by two players who've never thrown an NFL pass and a guy who isn't anywhere near starting material.

Why are we worrying about our back qb in 2008. For all we know it might be Campbell. We have to worry about here and now. Brunell is a vital part of this team whether you think he is or not.

It doesn't make sense for either party IMO.

I was thinking more as a knee jerk reaction to losing Vick (possibly for the season if not ever) and the fact that Petrino and Musgrave have history with Mark in Jacksonville. Their version of the "TJD trade"...
