Default Friday Night "Lights" Mom's brush w/Death

So....I was at a high school varsity playoff game last night in VA. I was with my friend Tammie whose husband is the head coach. We were leaving the game pretty bummed because they lost 24-27 after a great season. We piled into her mini-van for the long trip back to Frederick. We had her son and my son in the very back and her daughter and her daughter's friend in the middle and she and I were up front.

We exit the school, turn left at the light and start down RT 7. The next thing I see is head lights coming straight toward us.

Now...this stretch of the road is completely 1 way. I mean the other lane is 40 feet up a hill with 2 blocks worth of trees between the two parts of the road. I could not figure out how in the heck did that car come to be on this part of the road.

There were two lanes and Tammie was in the left, at first I thought the other car would just pull off to the side of the road but it just kept coming and we were both doing about 50 mph. Tammie swerved into the right lane but the car swerved toward us, so once again we were heading right for each other!

So by now there was no time left and I thought for sure we were going to be in a fatal car accident. At the last possible second Tammie jerked right again so that the other car slammed into the side of the van (the side my son and the daughter's friend was sitting on)

We managed to get the van stopped, the car behind us also stopped and the bad car stopped on the left side of the road.

I fell out of the car trying to call 911-and watched as the bad car took off!

Our kids were miraculously unharmed but the van was crumpled from stem to stern...

To end a very long story...the state police actually found the car, the woman (yes... the idiot was a woman) was drunk and had wrecked her car further up the road and was taken to the hospital.

Oh and by the way, there were two other witnesses to our crash but they sped by and didn't bother to stop to see if we were ok. Only this young lady stopped to help us. She saw everything unfold as she traveled in the right lane and if she hadn't slammed on her brakes so that we could swerve into her lane we would probably be dead right now!

Crazy!!!!!!!!!!

Wow AGG. Glad you're alright. As well as everyone else.

When I was getting my CDL's, they taught us to always turn right if another car is headed towards you in the same lane. It's for two reasons. Usually when another car is heading in your path, they to will turn right as well. [normal reaction] Second, you're not turning into the oncoming traffics lane. So your friend Tammy did everything correct.

I'm glad you guys were able to get the trouble maker. Too often they seem to get away.

nobody's taking our mother away from us. i hope nobody was seriously injured in your vehicle.

and it's terrible to see this further proves how few good humans are left. the fact that anyone could witness that and just keep driving? if they don't have a valid excuse, go home to your shallow lives.

Really glad you're ok. I saw the aftermath of a high speed head on accident earlier this year, and it might have been the most scarring experience of my life. I know I don't need to tell you how lucky you are, but... damn. It's a good thing they caught her, it's a bad thing that people didn't stop to help, but I have to say that both of those barely seem significant compared to the fact that you were all alright.

The good thing is the kids have been making cracks about it all day, so I'm happy that they are dealing with it so well. I was concerned that they would be traumatized...gotta say, Tammie and I are not handling it as well...made Hubbo take me shopping today...nothing like a lil' shopping to take your mind off of something...well, at least for girls....

Was a bit sore and stiff today but the new hot tub is already worth it's weight in gold, felt much better after a long soak!

Oh yeah I forgot to tell you, Tammie's husband the coach (the one that knows all the Redskins players and has Chris Cooley attend his HS games) couldn't even ride the bus home with his defeated team because he freaked out and came to rescue us...and the poor football players, on their buses, had to pass the accident scene on the way back to their school...

Drunk drivers STINK! They really do just ruin everything....

I promise no more posts, I'm ok now...no really....

Glad to hear you all are alright. That's just sad. She'll get what's coming to her once she gets out of the hospital. The folks that kept going are just a sad sack of crap. As was mentioned, karma baby.

I'm glad to hear that nobody was hurt. You all are very lucky.

Where on rt.7 did this happen? Oh and the low-life's that didn't stop were probably drunk as well.

I was wondering the same as well. It sounds like it could happen close to where I live, something might be in the tap water around here. People are idiots.
