Is It Just Me?

The more I think about it, the more Mike Martz seems like Steve Spurrier from last year. Keeps using his favorite QB because of past victories even though he's obviously ineffective now. Passes way too much. Lets his ego get in the way of good decision-making.

Too many similarities to call it just a fluke?

I don't consider Spurrier to be an ass, and being an ass is what Martz does best IMO, so I'll pass on this question.

Spurrier is trying to prove he can do it in this league the right way.

Martz is trying to prove he can do it again, no matter the cost.

I have to agree with rskinsfan10 and robert on this one.

But then again you did say last year. My apologies. You're right. But thank god it seems that Spurrier has changed his ways.

it's just you in terms of using his "favorite QB". Warner had one bad year (last year) full of injuries to his hand. He deserves hs starts.
What Martz is doing wrong is not running Faulk at least 20 times a game. When you have such a rare commodity, you use it.
Unlike most here, I feel Martz is a very intellgent coach, and he's proved it. He is looking kind of stupid right now...but it was only the first game of the season...if this keeps on, then he's an idiot.

Martz started looking stupid when Bellicheck essentially dared him to run the ball during the SB a couple of years ago, and he played right into their defensive scheme for that game. So much so that there was widespread talk around the league that he had lost the respect of a lot of his players, including Faulk.

He also threw Canidate into his "doghouse" and publicly dissed him after a game in which he fumbled near the end, but made no mention of the 3 INT's that his star QB threw during that same game.

He has not used Faulk effectively way too often in the past. It is starting to become a trend. If Faulk doesn't hit a homerun within his first few touches he abandons him. I'm begging to believe that if not for Dick Vermeil, the Rams don't even make it to that SB. He must have been overriding some of Martz's calls.

I don't buy into the fact of Warner should be "owed" to start. In the Giants game, Salisbury (from ESPN) did a very good job of showing the problems that Warner is having. And it had nothing to do with his injuries from last year. He's just not as sure as he use to be. I think he lost some of his confidence. He holds onto the ball way to long. The guy had 6 fumbles against the Giants.

I think Martz think's he's the smartest person in the NFL. He's wrong. Warner does look like he lost his confidence in that game, the question is whether he will get it back. What happens when Bulger plays well and Warner is healthy, both mentally and physically?

I do believe Martz is an ass as well.

And look where he holds the ball, one handed, down by his waist. Poor fundamentals. It's amazing he gets any velocity on the ball.

I will agree with you here...Vermeil has shown himself to be an amazing coach, in particular the offense. He created the Rams, and now the Cheifs...let's not forget the offense he created in Phily going 42-22 from 78-81.

Martz is a good coach...here's a list of his acheivments.

I will add, that he does appear to be stubborn....sometimes you have to "roll with the punches".

He's a good teacher, but as the leader of a team, his ego is getting in the way. Mike Martz has won 0 Super Bowls as a head coach. Remember that. For all his accolades and the greatest show on turf mantra, he has produced 0. When Belichick dared him to run the ball in the Super Bowl, Martz' ego got in the way of doing what was right and obvious. It cost him the game.

Washington fans know all too well the danger of promoting/hiring a great play caller into a head coach (anyone need help?). Just because they can do one doesn't mean they can take it to the next level.
