My take on the end of the Bristol race...
1. I (still) LOVE the new surface. If this is the product of the new surface of Bristol, then I'm on board 100%! If you want single-file, rubbing-is-racing, bump-n-run action, then go to M'ville. Bristol is all about going fast 3-wide on a short track. I dig it!
2. I LOVED watching Kyle and Carl race door to door for the last 20 or so laps. The are clearly the top 2 drivers in the series, and that fact has been on display the past two weeks.
3. I LOVED when Carl bumped Kyle for the lead.
4. I LOVED when Kyle rubbed up on Carl after the race because he was pissed...
5. I LOVED when Carl spun out Kyle after that...
6. I LOVED Carl's interview saying the bump for the lead was due to previous racing incidents with Kyle.
7. I LOVED how JD Gibbs told Carl "you reap what you sow"...
8. I LOVED how Carl told JD that was exactly what happened on the pass. lol
9. I LOVE how NASCAR made a win in the "regular season" worth 10 points for the Chase. That makes drivers locked into the chase (Carl, Kyle...etc) have only one goal each week; WIN. When Carl and Kyle were fighting for first, everyone knew the 2nd place car would go home with as much value as the 43rd place car.
10. I've been mentioning for over a year now that the new COT is a tough car to tame, and only the sport's true "wheel men" would prosper in it. Carl and Kyle Busch are putting on a clinic out there.
NASCAR has been stale the past 2 seasons. This sport needs a rivalry...and Carl vs. Kyle should do the trick just fine.
Now on to crappy California.

So, rumors are still floating around that Darien Grubb will become Tony's crew chief next season (solid pick, IMO) and that Burger King will sponsor Newman's ride. If you ask me, BK should be on Tony's car. He has the gut for it. lol

Clinch scenarios:
Quote:
To clinch a Chase spot, a driver needs to leave Auto Club Speedway with a 196-point lead over 13th place.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. is currently 350 points ahead of 13th place. Regardless of any other driver’s finish, Earnhardt will clinch if he finishes:
• 40th or better
• 41st or 42nd and leads at least one lap
Jimmie Johnson is currently 348 points ahead of 13th place. Regardless of any other driver’s finish, Johnson will clinch if he finishes:
• 40th or better
• 41st and leads at least one lap
Jeff Burton is 274 points ahead of 13th place. Regardless of any other driver’s finish, Burton will clinch if he finishes:
• 15th or better
• 16th or 17th and leads at least one lap
• 20th and leads the most laps
Six other drivers can clinch this weekend as well, but do not control their own destiny. Unlike Johnson, Earnhardt and Burton, all six must increase their current points lead over 13th place in Sunday’s race. Below are those drivers who can mathematically reach the 196-point margin over 13th position this weekend:
#20-Tony Stewart: Is 170 points ahead of 13th place and needs to pad his lead by 26 points.
#16-Greg Biffle: Is 141 points ahead of 13th place and needs to pad his lead by 55 points.
#29-Kevin Harvick: Is 129 points ahead of 13th place and needs to pad his lead by 67 points.
#24-Jeff Gordon: Is 108 points ahead of 13th place and needs to pad his lead by 88 points.
#17-Matt Kenseth: Is 78 points ahead of 13th place and needs to pad his lead by 118 points.
#11-Denny Hamlin: Is 57 points ahead of 13th place and needs to pad his lead by 139 points.
#07-Clint Bowyer, currently 12th in the series standings, cannot clinch a Chase position at Auto Club Speedway under any scenario, assuming #6-David Ragan starts Sunday’s race.

Ragan can clinch if he wins and leads the most, no matter what Bowyer does, same for Bowyer. Kahne needs to finish well ahead of both of them.

Well, they postponed both races until Sunday.

12 days and no one but me has posted. Nascar really did fall off the map.

It is at least 6-10 races too long. Kill 1 Pocono, 1 Cali, 1 ATL, 1 MICH, 1 Dover, 1 PHX and 1 NH and shorten the series.
As soon as NFL season starts, NASCAR looses its luster. I still tivo and watch the races, but it just isn't the same excitment as earlier in the season; especially since all the tracks in the Chase except KC & Homestead have already been raced on. I just can't get pumped up for another ATL race when it is opposite Skins @ DET at 1pm and NYG @ Pitt at 4pm....and you have a killer night matchup of SD @ NO to boot. Looks like I'll skip that race. I really make every attempt at watching every race, but it will be hard this year.
BTW - Kyle and Carl were on Tony's radio show last night. It was a nice attempt by Tony at trying to jumpstart the rivalry but it was a tame show.

12 NASCAR drivers did a special Top 12 List on Letterman last night. Pretty funny. Dale Jr, Tony, Jeff, etc. Fast forward 2 min to see it faster.

Opinions on Carl's attempt to pass Jimmie on the last lap last week? I thought it was exciting and worth the risk considering it was on the last lap and he was going for the win. Ironically, two of his chase teammates spoke out against it. More and more I am moving away from being a fan of Kenseth. It's Carl's decision to go for the win that makes me a fan of his. I love his style. Matt would have just sat back and probably would found a way to get passed by five cars on the last lap.

I flat out loved that pass attempt. Without a doubt.
I am not a Carl fan, but I am a huge fan of his driving style. Guys like him and Kyle Busch go all out for the win, and they will straddle the line of wrecking just for the chance at going to victory lane. 2nd place is nothing to them.
This is why I was hoping the Carl vs. Kyle saga would have gone all the way through the Chase. Watching them race each other on the last lap is a huge treat.
And yes...guys like Kenseth, Martin, Labonte, Burton...etc would haven't even considered it. They tend to race for points, instead of wins. That is fine, but I'd rather see a guy wreck trying a last ditch effort for the win than to sit back and call it a day without a solid try.
