Excellent write up.

I agree with most of it. I'm one of the ones who would like to see Washington cut, though.

I rather restructure him then cut him outright. I do think he plays great ewhen healthy but is rarely healthy. IF Rocky is really healthy in July or we sign Lance Briggs and/or someone else, then watch out if I am MW.

well he won't be cut, he just won't be re-signed. I love Rock, allook at any of my final 53 projectiosn from the past 3 years. he is always in them and I defend him to the max...

BUT

He is not part of the offense and is only a KR.

He wants to be part of an offense and I don't blame him, he isn not gettign any younger. His KR duties may give himn one chacnce at a decent pay day, but not here when we are cap strung.

I wish him well and I love him as a redskin and an NFL success story, but I just don't see him coming back...

If he does though I will be very happy as well.

Oh I agree...

BUT

something seemed to change in Rock late last year from what I noticed on the field. He was always quicker to jaw with the opponents and get into tussles. He still played hard but I just think he is not happy with his role here and most likely will be better off somewhere else.

I worry about some of these guys we've grown to know as team leaders. We're at that point with Jansen and Washington. Washington has seriously declined, and Jansen hasn't been himself in three years.
I would absolutely love it if these guys could come back and play at a high level, but is it worth the risk?
I mean, will we be left scrambling for replacements again in the middle of the season? What were able to accomplish last year with the amount of injuries and losses we had at critical positions, is nothing short of monumental.
Every team deals with injury throughout the season, but it would be nice if half the O line and secondary didn't go down all at once. Luck is such a whore.

this is always difficult. trade in "core" guy (cant believe im still using that term) in favor of a less expensive/just as productive guy.

IMO mason could do exactly what rock did this past year, and i would like to see him make the team.

also if either betts or CP goes down, he could possibly produce within the offense where as i dont feel rock was that great of a back (aside from the rams game two years ago).

at some point we have to start running this as a business and not a retirement home.

HOLY ZORN, we're $113 million over the cap!?!

JK, nice write up, man. Are you 100% on those cap figures? If so, its awfully tempting to cut bait with Jansen and Marcus. That's over $8 milion extra right there. That could defintitely come in handy around March 1. With that kind of cash, we could make a play for Asomugnguhgksjdfh (lol, the CB from Oakland whose name I can't spell)

I think Briggs is as good as fitted for the B&G.

I know it would feel like we lost a lot if Marcus is cut, but really, what did the guy contribute last year that was so irreplacable?

His numbers from last year: 48 tackles (32 solo), 5 sacks, 1 FF, 1 Safety.

That's it, and he only missed 4 games. I know he wasn't 100% most of the year, but that's exactly my point. We can afford to lose that minimal production and reinvest it somewhere else. Even his sacks were a product of consistent blitzing...maybe it's just me, but I feel like most of the time on his blitzes he just runs right into the RT or RB and goes nowhere. And only 1 forced turnover?

If we cut Marcus, sign Briggs (which we're doing whether Marcus is here or not) and then sign a vet to fill in, we create about $2-3 million that can be used on a CB, DE, WR, or OL. Marcus will be 31 in October, we have to wonder whether we've seen his best already.
