DeAngelo Hall to the Giants?
Rotoworld reports the Giants can get Hall for their first round (31st) pick. If this comes to pass and we draft a corner with our higher pick, I'll be pissed. Hall is imo a top 5-7 corner and the chances of any CB we may draft being superior is pretty slim. IF we plan on taking a corner in the first, we need to get on the horn with Atlanta and upstage the Gmen.

Hall is overrated, but trading the 31st pick for him is a good move for the Giants. I wouldn't give up our #21 for him though.

Would you rather draft a CB at #21 or trade for Hall?
If we go with another position at that pick, fine, but I think its absurd to draft a guy at the same position when a player who has already proven to be very good (overrated or not) is available for the same price. This is kind of like the Drew Brees/Philip Rivers decision the Chargers had to make or the Anderson/Quinn delimma in Cleveland. In those cases, I'd rather have the known commodity.
Honestly, if we drafted a corner at #21, we should be so lucky for him to turn out to be as good as Hall. Carlos sure hasn't.

I don't want to draft a corner in round one anyways, but even if we did, he wouldn't come standard with the massive extension it's going to take to reel in Hall for any more than one year. So, it's not the same price.
If we sign Drayton Florence then our CB lineup is more than fine even with Carlos' injury.

All first round picks are expensive though, I'd rather spend a wee bit more for a known commodity than a complete roll of the dice.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want a CB in the first either, but there has to be at least a small chance the FO is considering taking one. If we're going that route, well, I think I've made my point, lol.

Hall isn't worth it. Kudos to the Falcons if they fetch that for him. The Giants aren't that stupid, at least I don't think they are. And Hall is not a top 5 CB, never was, never will be. I believe he has been torched by every elite WR he has been tasked to cover.
Don't get me started on his blind support of Mike Vick or that he probably is involved in dogfighting himself.

Damn that number is everywhere
Trading the #21 pick for a dude who wears 21
For me (like you) it depends on who we plan on drafting. If he's a DE, then we gotta keep that pick. If we're gonna pick a corner (which I would be against), then we might as well get an established one (who is from the DC area to boot).

gotta say i agree with you. if we plan on drafting a corner at number 1 then i rather get Hall. he is mad young, will cost more, but you are getting a known thing. he aint great, but he aint crappy either. certainly better then carlose but no Nnamdi (spellling) for sure. he is a top 10 corner.
BUT, if the plan is the draft at another position then i would say no to this deal because getting florence and keeping springs puts us in good position this year, and we can make some moves the following year.
So, like you said, and so did Give portis the rock said, it depends on the draft plan. i would be highly pissed if we draft a corner in round 1, and let this guy go. But who knows, if thats the plan maybe a D-day trade?

I meant he falls between 5-7, maybe that's a bit ambitous. I'd say top ten though.
The Vick stuff is another matter altogether, they can't all be choir boys. The mouth on that guy is a bit disconcerting, I grant you.

I agree. But, what might be a viable trade is Hall and Boley for the #21 pick. That way we get a top 10 corner and a very good linebacker out of the deal. I don't know if they will do it, but Boley is a RFA so it would make sense. This would allow us to hit "two birds with one stone" so we don't have to use a draft pick on a corner or linebacker, and can use our picks to rebuild the trenches. Also, this would allow for us to cut Springs and possibly Washington, if not in 2008 then in 2009, to clear a ton of cap space.

Boley is a great player -- I think he's the most underrated linebacker in the league. Two top ten players (at their respective positions), both under 26, with just one draft pick? It's ideal but would they do it?

Boley's going nowhere.

If the Giants are offering the 31st pick for Deangelo Hall, then I'd offer the 21st pick for Hall and a 2nd rounder.

I think Hall would be an immediate upgrade to New York's defensive back unit. They have such a pass rush, that it would be a luxury to have a guy like Hall in coverage. Hall may not be top 5...but he is close.

Hall and Springs and our starters with Smoot and Carlos at the backups would be pretty sweet. But I think signing a guy like Florence and using our 1st rounder on a young linemen is way I would go.
