Question Wiz…Grizz…Navarro…In hindsight, which team was the real winner in this deal?

Quote:
Spanish guard Juan Carlos Navarro's chances of returning for a second season in Memphis were blown to pieces Wednesday afternoon when he decided to re-sign with FC Barcelona.
Navarro, who earned $538,000 with the Grizzlies last season, was swayed by a deal that will pay him between $20million and $24 million over the next four years.
Quote:
The Grizzlies are still on the hook for a first-round draft pick they traded to the Washington Wizards to acquire the rights to Navarro. The pick is protected through 19 this year.
In 2009, picks 1-16 are protected; in 2010-12, picks 1-14 are protected; in 2013, picks 1-12 are protected. If the Wizards haven't used the pick by then, they will receive cash and a second-round pick.

Which team is the real winner in this deal:

A. Grizzlies - got a solid year out of Navarro and still own his rights if he returns to the NBA

or

B. Wizards - traded Navarro for a first-round pick they may never see, but still have a second-rounder & cash as a future option

My vote....B

We will have something to show for it after one season; we win. What was the conditions on the 1st rounder?

Geez, that's the most complicated conditional pick ever. The winner is C: Navarro. Everyone else loses.

lol...I posted it up there. I’m gonna let this slide for now, but we’ll talk about this later.

I’m sure most of you guys know this, but when I first heard it, a few years back, I didn’t understand it. When they say it's protected, it basically means if the Grizzlies’ pick doesn’t fall within those allotted picks, the Wizards get the pick.

The pick is protected through 19 this year.

In 2009, picks 1-16 are protected

in 2010-12, picks 1-14 are protected

in 2013, picks 1-12 are protected

If the Wizards haven't used the pick by then, they will receive cash and a second-round pick.

As a Grizzlies fan, I can say I’m not confident my team will be out of the cellar by then. But whether the Grizzlies turn it around or not, the Wiz will still get something out of this trade…probably nothing more than a bench player. But if by some miracle, the Grizzlies make the playoffs before 2012, the Wiz would’ve traded a one and done player, for a lottery player. Sounds like a win-win for the Wizards.

Lol! I couldn't see anything in quotes from my Ipod...... I see it now though. So that means Wiz fans need to become Grizz fans just to see the pick then? lol
