NFL Head Coach 09

Some of the features may make me want to give this game a second chance, but I would have liked to see a new feature that says the game moves a little faster because their original version makes you wanna pull your hair out.

I was really looking forward to the first one, hoping to see some kind of (american) football version of Football Manager, but it ended up being the worst game I have ever played in my life. Those people have no idea how to make a sports managing game. I don't think this second one will be any better.

Same here. Maybe it's a good thing they don't...

I have only played for a little while, but the game has a ton of features and a lot of depth. I wouldn't have purchased as a stand alone even after playing but packaged with Madden it's cool. Plus you can make your own playbook and import it to Madden. I thought it was funny when I started as Jim Zorn that Lavar Arrington is on the redskins roster.

bumping this thread because I got this game about 3 months ago just as something to do one weekend, I was going to be home alone and 15 seasons later my coach is forced to retire.(the game ends after 15 seasons)
This game has a ton of bugs and staff retirement can get annoying but I have had more fun with this game then any previous game I've ever purchased. If you like franchise games or football in general (you are on a football site) I highly recommend this game. The draft is a ton of fun and that alone really makes this game worth it. I can't wait for 2010!

Couple things.
If you're playing this on Xbox and have room to install it on your hard drive, DO IT. The difference in gameplay is astronomical. The menu lagging is reduced severely, as are the load times and the time it takes to bring up the playcalling screen during games.
The offseason in this game is, as stated, fantastic. I traded Jason Taylor for a 2nd round pick, traded that 2nd and my 1st to move into the top 5 and grabbed a defensive end who is dominating the league halfway through the season. Traded a running back and next year's first for a mid-round first and got a beast of a defensive tackle. My 2009 Redskins are kicking butt after finishing last in the division in 08. Absolutely destroying opposing quarterbacks. It's beautiful.
I gave my coaching staff a complete overhaul and it's crazy how much it changes the type of team you end up putting together. Hired a new receiver coach. He was the best one available so demanded a lot of control. He wants the big, tall receivers whereas I previously emphasized speed the previous year. Watched Santana's rating PLUMMET because he doesn't fit the scheme my receivers coach wants. Nice touch.
Point being . . . This game is not for everybody but there is definitely a type of person who will LOVE this game. It's kind of funny trying to get through the season as quickly as possible so you can get to the offseason again. That part of the game is so incredibly well done.
I enjoy it quite a bit. Haven't played in a few weeks but now I feel inspired to do so tonight.

When you start getting into later seasons make sure you bump your GM's special ability. If you can get to the point where you can see the potential of all the first round picks it makes the draft a ton of fun. trading up and down the board trying to get the best players and laughing at the Raiders as they pick another QB in the top 5 with a potential of 80.

I haven't played this, but it sounds like Dan and Vinny should give it a try. They might learn something.
if they make a 2010 version I will probably get it, you guys have convinced me.

The funny thing is one of the first thing the game advises you to do is fire your GM. I haven't done so yet but I will definitely do something soon because my defense sucks. We can't get pressure on the quarterback (sound familiar?). I'm in year two and my team is 9-2 and on a 9 game winning streak heading into the Giant game. The offense minus Portis (who's on IR) is carring the team. The game can be frustrating at times (players not running the play the way it is intended to be run) but overall fun for those who are into the offseason mode in Madden. I personally love the game.

I actually love this game more than Madden 09. Definitely addictive and worthy of purchase. If you hate it, you only lose 8 bucks! Take the gamble, I say.
