Good call.
Honestly, I have no idea what Lippi thinks he is going to accomplish with this team. They are old and done right now, and will only be more old and more done next June.
Three quarters of our defensive line are made up of Cannavaro, Zambrotta, and Grosso. Aside from a sporadical good showing with the NT by Grosso, those 3 are ex-players (not to mention a combined 100 years old...literally).
And the 5 strikers/forwards who saw the field were: Quagliarella, Iaquinta, Toni, Pepe, and Rossi. Out of those 5, the only one who should have a spot on what should be a good NT is Rossi. Quagliarella and Iaquinta are good players, but FAR from stars, Toni is pathetic, and Pepe...Pepe...uhm, can someone remind me why he is on the NT? Did he win a lottery or something?
Here's a fun stat on Pepe: he plays forward, he will turn 26 this summer, and he has scored a total of 10 goals in his career in Serie A. That is not a typo: TEN goals. And this guy plays on the NT??!!
Compare that with Pazzini for example, who for some reason Lippi never uses even though he is playing out of his mind...Pazzini has scored 11 goals in his last 18 Serie A games.

There's a whole club season to go before the WC. A lot can happen in that span of time and other players will emerge. The only problem is I think you can play another 15 club season and you're not going to find another Nesta and Cannavaro in their prime. It was enough of a miracle that Nesta even made it to a WC healthy.

Well, the problem is that players are already emerging, yet are not being considered. For example, why is Toni being preferred to guys like Acquafresca and Pazzini? Or Grosso and Zambrotta to guys like Santon and Motta?

That buzzing horn sound is still ringing in my head. It haunts my dreams. The broadcaster from the Egypt/Italy game mentioned something about FIFA looking into banning those horns from the WC. What a great idea...
I couldn't help but snicker when I watched a guy named "Homos" score on Italy yesterday. Spicy - any good newspaper headlines today? Maybe something like; "Buffon gets beat by Homos"....or, "Homos head shot beats Italy". The possibilities are endless. lol
The US looked terrible yesterday against Brazil. Akh - I don't think the US's problems are on Howard as much as it is on their defense. They allow too much control outside the box and Howard doesn't have much of a chance on most of those goals. 23 shots is too many to face.
In EPL news...Chelsea has matched Liverpool's bid for Glen Johnson. Its up to him where he plays. My gut says he goes to Anfield. He is much needed right now...

No, unfortunately homosexual in italian is "omosessuale", without the "h", and we don't use "omos" like you guys use "homos". So that kinda took all the fun out of it (not for me of course, I was lmao when I heard who scored).

Yeah, but Howard is part of the problem. Even when the defense does their job, he's too vulnerable to long shots.
Honestly, after that game, I would gut the US team of everyone but a few young players(Altidore, Torres, Adu, Edu, Bradley, Guzan, Kjlestan[and that was a nonsense red on him] and Kenny Cooper) and make everyone else fight for a spot. They should put together a stout keeper with a good defensive line, then run their team like a Latin American team: go with the best athletes in the midfield and forwards. They could have beaten Italy if they played some speed on the flanks.

And as Harkes has mentioned on several occassions during the Confederations Cup - The US does't seem to have a solid holding midfielder in position to stop/reduce the abundance of those long shots on Howard. I've seen Howard stand on his head in EPL competition. The guy is good. He doesn't need world class defenders in front of him, but aside from Onyewu (who I believe is solid) I think the rest of his defenders are junk. They play scared.

This is my point: everyone knows what Howard's biggest flaw is, he can't stop a long shot to save his life. And while a holding mid who did his job would have stopped Rossi's goal(or forced him to look elsewhere), that wouldn't have stopped De Rossi's goal, which Howard should have gotten. I like Howard, but he shouldn't have a lock on the starting keeper's job for the US NT. I'd make him fight for it with Perkins and Guzan(and whomever else they could find).

I believe he's in the player pool. I would like to see Robles and Guzan get the chance, but I'd really just have open auditions lol.

Wonderful goal by David Villa. If he's playing on one of the front line teams he would be in AKH's franchise player list, or at least he should be. Just a great player who doesn't get enough credit as one of the best in the world.
