Default 2008-2009 College Hoops Thread

Given that some schools have kicked off their midnight madness programs, I thought I'd open a thread to get the season going.

In the first news, Gillispie picked up Daniel Orton, a five star center over the weekend to add to our 2009 class. It's a big get and if Patterson stays (right now a 50/50 chance) the two of them should be sick.

My quick view on UK this year - I think we'll play just as good defense this year as we have the most athletic team we've had since 98 (although not nearly the shooters we had then). I'd think we're back at the top this year in the SEC East. UT are hard to guess. Just as athletic I'd say, but not as defensive. Florida will be less athletic, but much more disciplined and with high game IQ. I have no clue about the west. I think we'll make our 17th tourney appearance in a row and make a run to the sweet 16. Anything more depends on how quickly our young team (only one senior, and he won't play) can develop offensively.

How are your teams looking (with the exception of the UNC kids because they have to be the front runner this year ).

And you guys have argyle...I'm not sure I need to defend ours.

but okay...see there's this horse, secretariat (a pretty good one I hear) and his owner is a UK fan so they used the checker pattern from his silks. The only thing I don't like are the white stripes going down the back of the jersey. They shirts also fit much tighter, which looks weird, but it's to give less cloth for other players to grab.

Mr. Wildcat is Bill Keightley, who was our equipment manager since Rupp until this last season. He is probably the second most iconic figure in UK basketball history (maybe moving to first almost because most fans now weren't alive when Rupp coached). He passed away last year, so the black band is for him, as well as the K on the uni's are also black for Keightley. I would have preferred just the K's, but I'm fine to honor the man however the school wants.

Also on the waist band, there's eight checkers, seven with our title years in them and then a blank one for our 8th. It won't be this year, but with the way our team is shaping up for 09 and 10, we'll be in the mix I think.

Very cool story. That's a wonderful gesture on Kentucky's behalf.

And I don't see the 8th anytime soon...[ducks]

Sorry, back to your regular college basketball discussion.

Yeah me neither... even if Hansbroughs injury keeps him sidelined early they have like 8 other McDonalds All-Americans to pick up his slack.

Lackadaisical play, inflated egos, and the any given day game that is sure to come along. I hope none of these factor in this season.

Not that it matters, but UNC beat UNCPembroke tonight 102 - 62.

Hansbrough didn't play in the exhibition game. Hopefully he'll be back in time for the Kentucky game.
