Shawn Springles possibly out until after the bye week (JLC)
According to La Canfora Springs will likely miss both Detroit and Pittsburgh.

We are really fortunate that Rogers is playing at such a high level with Calvin Johnson, Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes coming up.
If there was any doubt that we need to target CB in either the draft or FA next year, that should be erased now. While Springs is great player when on the field we really cannot depend on him at all: his body is unable to avoid injuries and does not recover quickly/adequately from them.
He better be okay by the time we play Dalass ....

So what else is new?
This will be the last year that Springles steals money and cap room from this team and if I was in charge, he would have been replaced 2 years ago.

I have been one of Sean's biggest defenders on this board and I still contend when healthy he is the best corner we have. But his brittleness is gettting to be a little much. It does look like Sean is on his way out the door at the end of this year.

When healthy, Springs is still an effective player. But he's only healthy about 30 minutes of any given season. I'd cut bait and sign some solid vet as a starter(Chris Gamble or Bryant Mcfadden) and move on.

Shawn is great when he's on the field, no doubt. At this point, unfortunately, we have to consider him a luxury. He's a guy, who, every now and then, we'll have available. And when we do, it's a freaking bonus.
Dude is awesome. Personally, I don't hate on him in the least. I understand he's not the most popular guy amongst Redskins fans right now, and I understand why, but I love the way he plays the game.
Thankfully, our corners are great. Carlos Rogers may not be the best corner in the league, but the fact of the matter is that nobody is playing better than him right now in this league. Nobody. So we're lucky that we can still hold our own.
I will look forward to Shawn's return in a few weeks. Since he hasn't been on the field that much this year, it will essentially be a nice boost to an already stellar defensive backfield. That is a truly scary though for opposing teams.

We have the best tandem of corners in the league when Shawn is healthy

sounds like a plan because tenderoni really doesn't do playing injured and sucking it up.
when you pay a guy 8 mill a year there's no reason for him to risk himself. He thinks he has us over a barrel. Akh was right last year when the season ended we should have moved on then.
to think anything different was gonna happen was a joke.
Springs is still a solid corner but he's prone to injury and is a no show in the off season which might actually prevent some of the dings he suffers from.

now that was not called for lol
I still agree with Springs on his issues with management. If thye wanted to cut him they could have bit the bullet and done so awhile back.
But there seems to be a lack of heart and ability to play through pain now...perhaps it is age catching up perhaps other things.

I really do love that name, lol. This news sucks, but thankfully Rogers has played so well. This just means my heart rate will go up a lil when I see Torrence out on the field.....

That's what I've been saying. We should have cut his arse two years ago and used the money to get a full time player or two. Highest paid player on the team and least dependable.
Dude is a china doll and always has been.

i think that last year, he cost as much to cost as to keep.. not so anymore.. his continued presence on the team will depend upon production.
if i was betting, i would expect a push during the last half of the season to try
and convince the coaches to keep him.. on the other hand, as long as Blache is DC, i think springs has a better than 50/50 chance of remaining, regardless of his salary...

To be fair to Springs this most recent thing is not a toughness issue. He's had an MRI and they are saying he's out for 2 games. It's not an issue where he should suck it up and go out there, he's not hurt - he's injured.
That's not to say that there haven't plenty of other times where he could have manned up and gone out there, imo.
I wish Tryon had shown something this year. I don't hate Torrence and Smooty is very servicable as a 2nd corner. I'd like to try to address 2nd corner via FA (Gamble sounds good, Akh). Then I'd like to take a late round stab or two at CBs. If nothing works out via FA I think our 1st or 3rd needs to be considered for CB2.

the way we are going, i think it is more likely we draft a corner than sign a FA to fill the spot.. first tier corners are frightfully expensive, and then they are breakable..
i personally believe torrence will continue to improve, but smoot will deteriorate over time. tryon has to make progress
maybe we luck out and get a shot at someone like asomoghe ? but short of that, i think we re load via the draft.. maybe richardson improves on the PS and maybe westbrook does as well...

Good point on the cost of FA CBs. I momentarily forgot the absurd signing bonuses being thrown around the last few years.
