Gatewood to the Chiefs...Skins sign Octavien
move that quietly happened and reported by Jasno today
Kansas City signed Curtis Gatewood- LB off of our PS to their roster.
in his place we signed Steve Octavien LB, who had been a chief's signee but never made the roster or PS
too bad.. i had hoped that gatewood develop enough to get a shot next year.. but we should take it as a compliment that this is the second young player signed off our PS to another team's roster this year.. at least some of the other teams appear to like our scouting..

That stinks. I was hoping that Gatewood would compete for a roster spot next year. He and Crummey were my 2 favorite undrafted free agent signings, and now they are both gone. Although I got the feeling that we weren't that impressed with him this pre-season when we cut him off the PS early in the year.
There is no one else on our PS currently who I think has a decent shot at making the team next year. Devin Clark is probably our best prospect on the PS.

Ugh. Yet another one of our PS going to another team instead of to our roster. I hated to see Crummey go because I thought we could have used him on the active roster instead of some of the dead wood that was there. I was also hoping to just IR Marcus Washington and promote Gatewood. The FO is really dropping the ball on our PS.

The Skins needed to sign Vince Hall to the PS. He would be a great developing LB for us, but no they don't .

When was the last time a PS player made it on the team and actually made a solid contribution?

Vinny has a radio show to do. What, you expect him to actively manage the roster to try to improve it?

Wasn't Chris Clemons a Practice Squad guy who became a pass rush specialist for us and is now a a significant contributor for the Eagles?

His brother Nik was on our PS but I think Cris was always on our roster or IR.

I'm gonna sound like a FO apologist for this but, come on. I would have loved to see Crummey, a Terp (easy Rich, lol), make the team. But the fact is we didn't have a roster spot for him. Gatewood's situation is even more improbable in terms of making the active roster.
Again I would love to have been able to keep both these guys but only to see what they could do next year. Clearly we are in desperate need of youth next year @ OL and OLB with a dearth of quality picks. However, we simply do not have the room on the active roster for them now. If you feel otherwise tell me who we'd drop to keep these two.....
Keino, I pre-emptively remove Keebler's tip-tap-toeing arse from discussion b/c we are thin at RB and that roster spot would be Marcus Mason or Tatum Bell or some other back's but not these guys....
