Default offseason Plan

There is not much available in free agency and I am sure the good ones will be franchised. I tried to make this realistic.

I. Draft
1. BJ Raji-DT-Boston College 6-1 323
3. OT
5. Center
6. best player available

II. Free agency
1. Resign Kendal
2. Resign DeAngelo Hall
3. If not franchised then sign OLB/Karlos Dansby

III. Misc.
1. Don't fire Zorn
2. Make Stephon Heyer the starting Right Tackle
3. Cuts- Marcus Washington, Shawn Springs, Jon Jansen
4. Hope the Jason Campbell improves with another year in this offensive system.

Is it a better team. Well not by much but with so few a draft choices and cap room there is only so much we can do.

this is a decent free agent class which should be alot better than last year even after tags and players resigning imo

I don't watch nearly enough college football to comment on players, but thanks for bringing up the DT from BC. I watched a few BC games this year, and this guy was all over the place. His ability to disrupt the defense reminded me of Warren Sapp in college.

Can anyone speak more about him? Where is he projected to go?

Isn't resigning Kendall against your code? Why not let our DRAFTED AND YOUNG player get the start (Rinehart). If you don't think we'll be good next year than let's not prolong the inevitable and get rid of some older players. Washington, Griffin, Springs, Smoot, Daniels, Randle El and Thrash all need to go. In your plan, we get mildly better but still don't have any future.

Here's what I'd do:
Cut or don't resign - Washington, Griffin, Springs, Daniels, Kendall, Fabini and Thrash
Trade - Smoot (4th), Randle El (5th)
Resign - DeAngelo Hall
FA - OT Jordan Gross from Carolina (run blocking of Jansen with the pass blocking of Heyer), DE Chris Canty or convert DT Jordan Babineux to strongside DE, Al Harris (if cut) or Bryant McFadden from the Steelers
Draft theory (no combine or senior bowl makes names a bit too difficult to come up with) - Best lineman available with first round, depending on what you got 1st round, I'd go with an opposite next go around, 4th round - OLB, 5th round - DB, 6th round - k, 7th round and compensatory picks - line
Randoms - Don't fire Zorn, he obviously hasn't lost the locker room if he can get the Redskins up enough to beat the Eagles with nothing on the line. Encourage Blanche to retire but if he's stubborn and won't do it, don't force it. A move like that, when defense is the only decent unit can do more harm than good. Mike Singletary isn't likely to stay HC so consider hiring him or Jim Washburn (Titans DL coach). I would move Jason Taylor from full-time DE to that sort of roving LB you saw against the Eagles.

I don't think we're a bad team right now. We're a bit better than mediocre. If we can infuse some youth into the trenches, I think that alone will make us better.

Definitely need to re-sign Hall. He's the only corner we have that can catch and he's a playmaker.
Kendall - I'm not so sure about him anymore. He whiffed really bad and let Jason take a nasty hit from Clemons. Plus he's getting on in age...anyone know what his contract looks like?
JTaylor- I hope he comes back, healthy and at a lower price tag.
Springs/Jansen/Washington - Cut or restructure.
Find a servicable 3rd safety in FA
Get a playmaker OLB in FA
Find a young RB in FA for cheap- I like Sproles but I doubt he'll come cheap.

Draft priority:
DT, DE,C,T,G= basically, build the lines through the draft, if we're lucky, find a playmaker ILB/OLB somewhere in there because I just don't think Blades has shown that he is the next in line after Fletch.

Trades: Yep, I think everyone and anyone (except CP) should be trade bait. Santana is our biggest threat on OFF. but if someone is willing to part w/ some good draft picks, I can't say I wouldn't entertain the thought. Same thing with Cooley. Yes, he's great and we all love him but if we can get an improvemnet in other areas in exchange for Cooley, I might just do it. Hopefully, Davis isn't much of a drop off from Cooley.

I know those trade scenarios won't be very popular but we have to check our player loyalties at the door and remember that we're Loyal to the TEAM first and foremost.

One more unpopular opinion - Keep Zorn/Blache intact.

Oh and FIRE Vinny!!!! and bring in a real GM.

You know ive been thinking of some good DL to get, and i know Kentucky has a few good ones, and i know Clemson has a few young ones. But i totally forgot bout Raji and think he would be exactly what we need

I haven't seen Raji but he sounds like he's cast in the Warren Sapp mold.

Ok the one thing I don't hear anyone talking about is a decent second back, it seems to me that Portis {bless him} is no longer a 16 game back. Most of the great teams have 2-3 backs to pound at the defense. Granted our shopping list is looooong but add a second back . By the way Betts scares no one.

You can pick up a fairly decent back in FA or late in the draft on the cheap. No way we need to really worry unless you are being REALLY thorough with your offseason plan.

actually. considering the offense and it's ineptitude, a quality scatback like sproles who can double in the return game would be a very solid secondary need, after the lines and linebackers are taken care of...

I doubt a third tier RB will contribute in any real, significant way to turning this offense from the depths of the NFL in terms of rankings to respectibility.

maybe not this year.. it is too late.. but portis fights the ball a lot on screens and wheel routes. a guy who could catch those and turn up field would make JC look a whole lot more efficient in handling the blitz.

look at the niners. with craig and rathman they were devastating against teams that tried to go after their qb's...zorn has to feel he needs that kind of option as well

Campbell is horribly inaccurate on the screens. How many times has he thrown it where the RB/receiver has to make an adjustment to catch it? If you have to stop your momentum on a RB screen, you are dead in the water.

true.. he needs to work on his touch.. but he is better this year (made a couple of amazing throws through defenders hands) and will be yet better next year.

having a guy with soft hands like betts, but quicker would be a great asset
