Steve Spurrier Coaches TV Show (REVIEW)
Here are the main points from the show:
* On the Penalties - Spurrier said it was embarrasing....especially since the fans "pay a lot of $ to watch the team play at home". Said the leaders need to lead by example, but they are the ones making most of the penalties. "No need for it"
*On DMC Penalty - "Very Childish". Mentioned that DMC had a taunting penalty last year agains the Giants as well. Another one by DMC and Spurrier said he would consider a suspension. (WOW)
*On the Samuels Penalty negating TD - Very close call...since the hold was not that close to Ramsey.
*On Bailey getting burned - Said he "got beat", but the Strong Safety should have helped him out in that particular coverage.
*On Trotter's Uncessary Roughness - Said the Giants initiated it, but Trotter shouldn't have retaliated.
*Asked what Spurrier said at the Half - He said he yelled at the team...which is something he rarely does. Said the team needed to win and stop the stupid penalties.
*On the Ramsey INT - Said LC and Ramsey were locked in route...but Will Allen made an amazing play.
*On DMC TD - Said it was the same play called for the Gardner TD. Said DMC has improved very much. When asked if DMC was in his doghouse, Spurrier said; "Ha No! WE embarrassed him enough in camp this week. He knows he did wrong."
*On the 2pt conversion - Said Ramsey usually doesn't do well in "scrambling plays" but made a great throw to DMC. Gave DMC a lot of credit for waving his hand when open and holding on to the ball despite the hard tackle.
*On Final Drive in 4th - Made mention of the DMC catch to get them close to red zone. Said he made a great play. Said he was not worried if Hall would make the FG or not. He has confidence in him. Spurrier took full blame for not "calling better plays to hook up DMC or Gardner in the endzone to win it". (No mention of LC, mind you) Said he wish he could have called back that late play in which Ramsey got sacked.
*On OVertime - Said the Finn run was achieved because "a certain player was out of position". (Lavar) Said he doesn't like to call out players so he left it at that.
*Question: How Not to Fall Behind? - Said the team needs to come out and play better, as they did int he Jets game.
*Question: If you had 2 or 3 additional wide receivers like LC, would you ever run the ball? - Answer: Of course. (That was a dumb question from a viewer)
*Question: Who calls the plays - Said he calls all plays, but Hue has a lot of influence. ESPECIALLY in calling the run plays.
* On the Giants Loss - Spurrier asked himself after the game what he could have done better. Spurrier totally takes the blame for the loss.

WOW is right, maybe just a scare tactic, but if it works maybe he should threaten them all

Jeff, I don't think its a scare tactic. It DMC does it again, he'll be suspended. And he should be. But like in the other thread about DMC, he did keep his cool and made two plays to tie the score and force overtime.
Spurrier did say that DMC has improved tremendiously...

He doesn't like to call out players but mentions that McCants will be suspended if he receives another taunting penalty?

I think maybe that is how strong the message is to DMC and others about stupid penalties. I like it

I think when it is blatantly a players fault. (Trotter on Roughing, DMC on taunting) he will call them out by name. If it is a missed play during the game, he doesn't like to call them out. Sort of like when Spurrier was talking about Champ getting beat on the Toomer TD. He said the "Strong Safety" (Bowen) should have been there to help, but didn't actually call out Bowen's name.
