The worst contracts in NFL history

Vinny pulled off two of the top 10 worst contracts in NFL history in one offseason. Well done, sir.

Vinny-- the "gift" that keeps giving
honestly, he is in the wrong field.. given the way bad banks have been showered with funds in the bailout, that is what industry he belongs in..

was vinnie already on board for that? Because if he was then Vinnie gets credit for that too

here's what it says about it.i don't know if vinny negotiated it or not,but it
would'nt surprise me since his ignorance seems to know no limits!

Five years, $25 million
Washington lured Spurrier from the college ranks with the richest coaching contract in NFL history to that point. The results were poor, however, as the team went 12-20 in two seasons under him. Adding to the sting was the fact that Washington fired Spurrier's predecessor, Marty Schottenheimer, with $5 million left on his deal. Fortunately for the Redskins, Spurrier resigned with three years left on his pact, meaning the team didn't have to pay him the remaining $15 million.

here is what the first readers comments says too.

mr_shing (2/19/2009 at 2:26 PM) So half of the worst contracts ever are from either the Redskins or Raiders.. It says more about their ownership than their GMs.

Sob. I don't want to be negative but feel that the pair must make many mistakes in a 3 year period to have a chance. If they are happy with a draft/FA signing then we are sunk.

It's great to see our guys mixed in with successful teams like the Raiders and Lions.

Not surprising. I'll just give my canned response about this type of thing for the next several years until he is replaced by another crony stooge:
Hey, Vinny!

Sad thing is that there's no sign of things getting better.

Here's some stats that will make Redskin fans sick:
- D. Thomas--15 catches--120 yards--0 TDs
- M. Kelly--3 catches--18 yards--0 TDs
- F. Davis--3 catches--27 yards--0 TDs
3 second round picks and Vinny gets a total of 21 catches, 165 yards, and 0 TDs out of this trio of rookies.
Pathetic! We could have used these picks in such a better way. Did we really need another TE? Who cares if Davis won the best TE award the year before he entered the draft. That had to a pick made from a mock draft site.

So much of next season is riding on these guys. When I think about it, maybe we were lucky to be 8-8. The prior season we were 9-7, but had all pro Sean Taylor for half the season, and then played with a tremendous amount of passion without him.
In the offseason, we did nothing to get better. We cut the only FA we signed and none of our draft picks worked out to be better than the guys who were there the year before. Horton was good, but Horton/Landry was not better than Taylor/Landry.
Think about that. We were a mediocre team that did nothing to get better while our old lines got a year older and we implemented a new offensive system and still finished in just about the same mediocre position. Maybe we overachieved last season.

clearly, the first half last year... not so much the second half.. we will get to see a better picture of who we really are this year
