Redskins to have johnson visit, very interested in maualuga
cant post the link as its from a pay site but vinny, dan had an extensive conversation at the combine with rey,and that "had alot of smiling going on". the redskins brass wiill travel to california to work him out before the owners meetings march 24th. the dolphins are also very interested.

then micheal "boom or bust" johnson will visit april 2nd. then someone else posted about the clay matthews jr workout. my gut feeling is we take maualuga if oher doesnt slip

Only the Redskins would tip there hand a month before the draft. If there interested in Maualuga, which they should be, they need to keep quite about it so no one trades up and takes him before us. Its nice to see though, that they have interest in two of my three favorite prospects in this draft.

I am starting to warm to the Tech kid. He had a better Senior season than people suspect (19 TFL, 9 sacks, 7 passes defended (!)) but here is the kicker: He did that playing 3 special teams squads and dropping into coverage pretty often in the zone blitz. As I have read more about the guy and seen what a lot of the Georgia Tech locals say about him I am less concerned about his motor. Apparently, he has a great motor and pursues like crazy. What he has lacked is coaching as a 4-3 base end. I can't think of a single player who could play 3 Teams units (as a gunner no less!) and not be winded also playing almost every snap on defense as a rush/cover end. Focused on a single position and getting focused coaching could, could, let the guy fulfill his potential (which is immense). I think Mayock might be wrong on this one.
He still has the problem of never blowing up against lesser competition so I don't pretend there aren't concerns but you can find red flags on any player. Orakpo was never super productive. Tyson Jackson isn't a pass-rush guy. Maybin and Brown are 3-4 rush backers. Etc. I am more scared of Rey Maualuga's coverage ability and low tackle numbers than Michael Johnson's lack of production. The question is, can our illustrious FO tell the wheat from the chaff? Yes, I know the answer but even a blind pig...

This is what I dont understand, thumbs down for what reason? He produced pretty well for Georgia Tech and got to the QB, whats wrong with picking Michael Johnson?

BJ Raji/DL/Boston College: Raji stood on most of his combine numbers, only doing position drills during the Boston College pro day Thursday, yet he continued to impress NFL scouts. He looked fluid and very athletic, quickly moving around the field. Scouts now feel it may be a waste to use Raji at nose tackle or as a two-gap defender, rather they feel he has the ability to line up as a three technique lineman. In other words, NFL decision-makers think Raji has the skills to chase the quarterback and make plays on ball carriers as opposed to just clogging the line of scrimmage. Raji has moved into the draft's top six picks barring any unforeseen red flags at the last minute.

I think picking him at 13 is way too high (no mocks I've seen have him that high). He's too lanky for my liking and has a higher chance of being a bust than other guys that will still be around.
Not to mention I don't think we 'need' a DE as much as a RT or OLB. If we trade down I would be happier with a Johnson selection.

I liked him too, but I don't think we need him with Albert around.

I am praying for a trade down to the late 1st / early second round and taking Lawrence Sidbury outta Richmond.

I am starting to warm up to Johnson a little bit, but I would rather we take Rey because he is a safer pick, and we don't have enough picks to go take a huge risk like that. Let's get someone we know can contribute.

But if you can get Johnson in a trade down. Use the 2nd rounder we would get on right tackle Loadholt from Oklahoma and use the 3rd rounder on a linebacker. All the positions of need would be addressed
